Better for the upstroke? I've been thinking my current toe clips feel pretty pointless.

There's a chance that I added myself to the waitlist for this helmet and received confirmation that I'm on said waitlist and that they ship to the US. I'm pretty excited. ETA, I'm also thinking about getting something like these because I dislike my handlebars and can't justify getting a new bike just because I want a road bike right now (and because I'm spending $150 on a helmet). http://www.amazon.com/Origin-Bicycle-Drop-Ends-Black/dp/B0013G6PB8G6PB8I can't decide if I want drops or bullhorns though. I think I'd be more comfortable in bull horns, but I like the aesthetics of drops more. Life is tough.

Ive got some new plastic coated toe straps that have been working well but before when I was using nylon single straps they would break sometimes when I was trying to skid or just slow down.

If you got drop bars (actual drop bars not the bolt on ones like the link) you could ride on the hoods which is the same position as the bullhorns, plus having the drops for more hand positions.

I don't know if I could find drop bars to fit the bike though. I'm going to check it out. I might go crazy and get trekking bars anyway. Then I could have my hands all over the place.

While Nick was working on my bike tonight I was flipping through the company catalogs and fell in absolute love with the new Salsa Casseroll: It's so beautiful. It makes me think of pixies and gossamer. I've wanted a Casseroll since I first saw one simply because that's the best name I've ever heard. It also helps that they're nice bikes too. Too bad my Surly is so great at doing everything and I don't need this.

KJ, since you have one, how do you feel about climbing hills on it? Does the steel weigh it down? Does it make for a comfy ride? Is it an appropriate bike for commuting and running errands? How about group rides? Would it be too slow for that?

I have a Casseroll, too, from probably 2007. At a glance, the difference is mine has caliper brakes & no front rack. I've been through tons of bikes & this one suits me better than any of them. It's great for commuting & grocery-getting if you have a rack & panniers. Also, very comfortable on the long ride. I've been meaning to try and go camping on it, but that'll have to wait until it's cooler. It's nothing you'd want to race on, but otherwise it's versatile & I couldn't be more happy with it.

It's comfortable for sure, make sure you try one to see how you feel on it. I test rode one at a bike shop by the University Village then ordered it in Bellingham from my local shop. So far it's great for climbing. I haven't gone on a long ride yet (the furthest I've been is 10ish miles). The 10ish miles were loaded for camping (tent, sleeping bag and pad, clothes, food etc...) and it was great! I don't think it's heavy, but that may be because I am used to an 80s Trek that is heavier than the Salsa.

Oddly, enough, what I want for my bike most is a road bike for the husband. I don't know how much he'll ride it, but when I go on long rides, I wish he could see what I see when I'm out. Often there isn't time for a photo, or I don't have the words to describe the scenery. I would like him to have the option of going with me!

spoke too soon- got an email from the bike shop i ordered it from today: "sorry but your item is out of stock and no longer available from the manufacturer" (it's a limited edition colourway). so don't have it listed on your website then, dickheads! can't find one anywhere else either. balls.
