That is a rad bike, Adam!

Drop bars give you more positions for your hands, but also allow you to get more "aero" when you're going down hills and stuff. That may not matter that much to you, but if you ride with your hands on the hoods of the brakes like this:
Image
then you'll be more upright while still being able to use the brakes.

That said, depending on what your shifting system is, it is probably a fairly simple thing to swap out the bars.

I just found out about the Strava "fly by" thing. It replays races or rides, so you can see how things played out. Kind of a neat tool, actually. Here's my race from yesterday: http://labs.strava.com/flyby/viewer/#13 ... MIyiFUCA==

Adam -- another cool thing about drop bars is that you have a lot of variety for hand position. With straight bars it's easy to get hand fatigue, you just dont have as many different ways to place your hands and still have access to the brakes.

I remembered this around lap 3 on Fiesta. A flat boring ride, but nice training as the cars only go in one direction and there is some wind out there. Also, since it's flat there is no coasting, it's a decent workout.
It was great to be back on the bike!

forking HELL, Phil & Paul are hilariously bad

"they're coming up with 1km to go. under the <sponsor> banner. 1km. here it is, 1km now left in the race"
"yes that's right Paul, that's 1000m left to race, and they'll get through that in under a minute"

Ha!

I was so stoked to watch the women's race yesterday. I know it's just a drop in the bucket, and they should be giving the women their own stage race, but it was nice just to see ANY women's racing on tv. It looked really fast and super aggressive, AND my friend got third!

also got to ride home under the 1k to go gantry and the flamme rouge at peter's hill. just started laughing.

shower and coffee now then into town for the sprint finish later.

exciting.

so sweet! glad you were able to take part in the action!!!

I have no idea how to handle P&P's commentary anymore. it's really close to the point where I'd rather just no watch at all. so amazingly drab!

jordan: that's awesome! I managed to tune in just for the end!

Update: she came in second in the women's TT today! The commentators called hers the breakout ride of the day. She beat Evelyn Stevens. I am so stoked.

I just reserved a Santa Cruz Julianna Furtado (A $6k bike!) to rent and ride around for a day in Bend, OR. I'm racing a road race out there on Saturday, and my teammates and I decided to stick around an extra day and mountain bike on Sunday. I'm so stoked. I've never ridden anything but shitty, heavy, aluminum hardtails before.

TOC was fun until Sky. Giro's gonna get really fun next week :)

gotta say, Australia is owning the Giro at the moment though. pretty awesome to see.

Women's Pro Nationals road race was pretty awesome this morning. Allison Powers rode away with it in the final 7 miles. That means she took the national titles in TT, crit, and road. Her pain face was pretty epic.

I know -- I was heartbroken for TP when I read that yesterday. His break sounded similar to mine (same part of leg) but his is so much worse. He will not be riding for awhile. He was such a great contender for the Tour. Sad.

I missed today's stage because of stupid work! So bummed, because it looked rad, and my man Quintana apparently killed it.

Rode the Oregon Gran Fondo with my teammates yesterday as training for a big stage race later in the month. Our cat 4 squad worked together the whole way and took no assistance from anyone. Total was 117 miles and 6,000 feet of elevation gain. I'm really proud of us because we have very different strengths between us, and one girl was coming off a break/injury, but we really worked well together and left no woman behind. I feel pretty gutted today but in a good way.

So! I forgot to post about this last week, but I came in 2nd in the local FTP fest/crit/circuit race. It's a 6-week series, with a .7 mile course that is only climbing or descending - only about 200m of flat. The start of the race was a bit of a shitshow, since they started the sr. women one lap before us cat 4s. They were supposed to start us 30 seconds or so after the sr. field passed the start/finish for the first time, but instead, they started us directly into the asparagus of their pack, so we got split up immediately, and a pack never formed. I got up to the front immediately and then spent the whole race chasing a tiny girl on a super fancy bike. I decided at one point not to go get her, because I thought she was slowing up, and I figured I'd save matches to try and outsprint her in the end. Wrong move! She stayed away, and I wasn't able to go get her later in the race. I worked with a teammate for a few laps but then went out on my own and stayed away to take 2nd. I'm pretty stoked on that result, but the 2nd race of the series is tonight, and I want the W.
