Polar has one that looks pretty good and is suitable for swimming if anyone swims. It'll also sync up with a heart rate monitor if you want to wear one during certain activities

So I'm kind of obsessed with the idea of getting a Fitbit One, but all of the stores near me are sold out!

I think I lost my fitbit zip today!! I'm so bummed. I am tempted to replace it with the one though.

Ugh, so it seems like my Zip is definitely gone. I started looking into replacing it, but it seems like Fitbit is going to be coming out with something new for the holiday? There's no release date, but the Fitbit Force looks like it's exactly what I want. Now I don't know if I want to wait or not. I feel very naked without my Fitbit (sad as it may be). WWTPPKD?

I found it!! Somehow when it worked its way out of my pocket, it managed to attach to my coat. It's kind of sad how comforted I was to see it. I think because it's about the same size as a tamagotchi.

I kind of feel like a bad person, but I definitely ordered the Fitbit Force when they announced it today. It doesn't ship for 3-4 weeks, but I'm really excited.

So all week I've been calling electronics and fitness/sports stores all over the city and they are all out of stock of the Fitbit One. Boo. But lo and behold, the book store right beside my office sells them and I just saw a sign in their window that said they were in stock! I never thought to check there because why would a bookstore have Fitbits, but there you go. I'm going to stop in after work. Yay!

(This also means I have all afternoon at work to agonize over do I really think the One is the way to go, or should I get the Flex.)

Weird! I haven't see any stock issues here with the One. There were with the Flex for a while, but it was new on the market. Online?

Yeah, everywhere here has the One in stock, but the Flex is still out of stock a lot of places.

That's funny, Canada is opposite land. The Flex is everywhere but the One is so hard to find!

Okay so my thread hijack is over. I found a used Fitbit One for $60 so I snagged it. I'm setting up my account now - I need friends!

I am loving my jawbone up. My informal poll of friends and family indicate it would be better at sleep tracking than the fitbit. It is weirdly good at sleep tracking, actually.

It's amazing. The first one I got really didn't work, didn't track my steps right or my sleep, but this replacement one is awesome and I love seeing my sleep cycles. It's such great information for me.

Yay! Add me to your fitbit friends! If we are fb friends it's my last name at my university dot edu. Or you can pm me! Although I'm not active right now because my One is lost somewhere in my bedroom and the battery is charged down so I can't find it. I'm thinking of asking J if I can have his flex since he's using the Force prototype now...

The Force is pretty cool. It's big though, but maybe because I'm only seeing the x-large wristband. I wish they would change the clasp on the band! It's a PITA.

Gah, I didn't realize how sedentary I was - it's really hard to get to 10,000 steps a day and I don't own a car! Last week I was away at a conference and walking a lot so I didn't really need to try, but this week I've had to go out of my way to get extra steps in.

I got a Withings Pulse this week and so far I'm really digging it! It's basically a FitBit One with the addition of a heart rate monitor (you have to consciously do the heart rate monitor it doesn't just constantly track). It's totally neat to see how many steps/kilometres I'm walking and is a good reminder to be more active since the life of a grad student is pretty sedentary. I've been walking a LOT the last few days and really see that I do have to make a concerted effort to get to my 10,000 steps.

Yeah, Jacob has to go take walks during the day to hit 10k. It's really good at motivating you to be more active! When I was wearing my One I was pretty surprised that I was hitting 10,000, but it's because I walk all the time in the lab. Then on days when I was at my desk more it would drop by half!
