I met my short-term goal! Already! On Monday I was a mere 17 lbs above my long-term goal weight. That's really exciting for me. It seems so close now.

My new short term goal is to maintain the loss until the new year. This is a non-trivial goal with Christmas dinner and related holiday stuff to still get through.

Thanks, Molly, for the push-up link. I used to be able to do about 40 three years ago. Now only about 20 before my mind or body wants to stop.

Kind of short term goals:
1. 100 push-ups
2. run 2 miles
3. Go to kickboxing/Muy Thai twice a week

The Biggie goal:

Lose the 40 pound I've gained.

I've managed to keep exercising over the last few days, so I'm pleased with myself. My goal for the new year is to exercise 5-6 days a week even when I get busy with school; it helps me so much with stress relief!

Aww thanks! I've also just set the goal (literally just wrote it down) run three 5k's next year. I did one and I really loved it. I've only shied away from the because I'm not a morning person and they're typically in the early morning but it's time to get out of bed and get moving!

I thought it would be interesting to resurrect this thread, and would love to read about people's goals.

My goals: Work out three times a week, year round. Finish couch to 5k. The idea is that this will help combat my chronic health conditions (asthma and depression). I don't have specific training goals like wanting to run a certain distance or anything.

Running related:

- Routinely jog 30 mins non-stop by the time I go on holiday in January (I'm doing C25K, but given my general shortness and the length of my stride, I have no idea whether 30mins will actually equate to 5 kilometres...).

- Participate in next year's Colour Run.

- Participate in next year's City to Bay fun run (12k) and donate the proceeds to CFS research.

Non-running related:

- Be able to practice urdhva dhanurasana with good form. My cousin and I always used to do backbends when we were little, and trying to do one a few years ago made me feel incredible old and inflexible. :p

- Develop enough upper body strength to be able to do all the normal veterinary stuff without asking any of the male students to lift/hold/help with things.

I wrote a whole post for this and then my phone signed me out/deleted it.

-Deadlift over 100 pounds/get better at deadlift form. (Short termish)
-Squat my own body weight
-Run my next half in december faster than my last one (1:59:09) Reach goal of under 1:55.

- work out whats causing my recurring fatigue and manage/resolve it.
- Once I've acheived the first goal, get back into weight training 4 times per week.
- Then get back into running. I could do 20 minutes at 7.5kmph a couple of years ago and want to do this again, and more.

I like this thread resurrection and am delighted to read this post of mine from 2010:

Not only did I maintain the loss, I went on to lose the other 17 lbs to what I thought was my long-term goal weight. My long-term weight goals have changed (to about -15 from where I am now) but still, how awesome that I met my old goals.

My goals right now are more focused on things I want to do with my body than on achieving a particular weight though. I want to bike a metric century in spring and so am trying to increase my weekly mileage to prepare for that. I'm also working on building strength at the same time. I too want to squat my own bodyweight and am not far off now!

So glad this thread is resurrected! As it turns out I did run three 5k's a year for 2 years, even while pregnant. This year flew by and I intended on doing so and I just didn't. This year has been the year of intending to do a lot of things for myself that I have not done. Motherhood is priority #1 and behind that starting and running my non-profit has been priority #2. And I realize that the only promises I don't keep these days are the ones to myself - workout consistently, eat well, take a break for myself, etc. So I'm going to set a goal to show up for myself more.

C&S - cycling is one of those things I've said I was going to start doing for YEARS now and I still haven't. I'm hesitant to make it a goal because I don't have the money to invest in a good bike right now but man do I wish I could make it a goal. I'm rooting for you!

It looks like I'll be finishing C25k next week, so I have set new goals:

- run a 5k race in 30 minutes, I've signed up for one in September
- do cardio (running, swimming, etc) three times a week and strength training twice

Figured I'd update my list as well, since one goal's been achieved and I'd like to add/change a few.

- Build up to 10km long runs once a week.

- Participate in this year's Colour Run.

- Participate in this year's City to Bay fun run (12k) if I'm in town in Sept.

Non-running related:

- Be able to practice urdhva dhanurasana with good form. My cousin and I always used to do backbends when we were little, and trying to do one a few years ago made me feel incredible old and inflexible. :p

- Leg press twice my body weight.

My goal is pretty small right now. I just want to so an hour and a half to two hours at the gym every week. Right now I'm so out of shape that I can -at most- take an hour or so at the gym before I feel completely exhausted.

SoaringRaven, what is it you do at the gym? When I went to a gym I never worked out for more than an hour at a time, I think that's plenty.

Goals for this year:

-Improve upper body strength (years and years of playing very competitive sports and it was always my weakest point)
-Be more in shape than the girls/women on the team I coach haha
-Swim more
-Stop letting my husband's horrible eating habits rub off on me (probably the most important)

Losing a little bit more weight (15lbs or so) would put me at approx 10-12% body fat. Then I want to maintain that FOREVER. My current workout is yielding some good results, so I need to keep doing that and maybe change it up a little here and there.

It would be nice if I could do pull-ups again without injuring my shoulder. That's sort of a goal.
