Anyone tried out Koko FitClub? What did you think of it? Worth a shot?

I need to get back in the gym but my old one is waaay too busy now. Oh, Cape Cod summers, how conflicted you make me :)

I joined with a groupon and ended up staying on about 6 months. While I dig the technology and tracking aspect, I didn't like how structured/uncustomizable the workouts are. Ex: If you have knee problems and can't do squats, then you just skip the exercise. There is no substitution. (One of my friends who tried it out ended up not joining because of that.)

The cardio machines are limited to only elliptical and treadmill. I really enjoyed the winter elliptical workouts. The spring ones are pretty tough and not very enjoyable. If there are workouts you like, they often go away at the end of the season and you can't get them back. The interval training really does help cardio capacity, but this can be done on your own.

How well did it work?
In 6 months, I had a 60% strength gain. That is very impressive. On the other hand, I didn't really lose weight or inches and believe me, there is so room to shrink. A couple of weeks ago when I was trying to decide whether to stay with Koko, I grabbed one of my old workout dvds that uses 5 pound weights to see how much it challenged me. It was 20 minutes and kicked my butt. I was sore for a few days. At Koko I was supposedly doing 80 pound squats and 100 pound chest presses and 5 pound weights made me sore in real life. That has to make you wonder how accurate those numbers really are. (Or maybe it is lack of variety)

Pros - Nice facilities, structured, eating plan is easily customized to the vegan diet, strength gain inevitable
Cons - Really expensive, maybe too structured, not enough equipment variation

I cancelled and will check out another significantly cheaper gym or just use my dvds/free weights at home. Though I did save all my workouts for reference when I use weight machines elsewhere.

Oh hey, I missed the response to this - sorry Bergedy! Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.
I've just finished the Foundation at Koko (thanks Groupon!) and so far it's been ok. I'll see how it's going at the end of the 6 weeks. I lack motivation to work out at home so - yeah. We'll see :)
