Another 4-mile race in Central Park this morning. One weekend off races now, as my next one is May 12th. Yay!

My half marathon is in a week! So excited about it.

I did my first trail run this morning. I was originally signed up for the 10 miler but I figured since I've never done a trail run before, I should probably switch to the three mile option (I really wish there was a 5-7 mile option). Guys. GUYS. I came in 18th over all! Out of 75ish! And I was the 2nd official female and third actual female!!! (There was a woman ahead of me who was using someone else's registered # because the guy was sick). I've NEVER been that high in numbers before.

Ok, squeeing over.

random bizarre complaint: my ribs hurt. i thought for a while it was my diaphragm or upper abs, but it's not. it's just the bottom two ribs in front.

i've had two longer runs than usual these days- no ab work or any lifting [gym's been too packed]. I wonder if this means i'm starting to fall apart.....

Yesterday I headed out with my trail running group to run a quick 12km in the trails. It snowed Monday (yeah, I know) so the trails were very snowy. This particular trail wasn't super difficult (no huge ascents) but all the snow made it a challenge. Today my glutes are feeling it today.

5 miles again. Thinking about new shoes... mild inner ankle pain in my left foot. New insoles helped drastically, but I'm wondering if it's time to splurge for a new pair. Better safe than sorry! I'm icing now and will use the ole foot log tonight.

Ran 3,5 K today as a warm up for the gym. It went faster than usual and I felt super full of energy. FUN!

Since my half marathon is on Sunday, I'm wondering about food. I know I have to eat a bunch tomorrow, but should I be increasing calorie intake today as well? Eating over my daily expenditure? (I've been eating slightly under to lose weight)

Post subject:  Re: Running!

My coach has had me increasing calorie and carb intake for three to four days prior to a half-Ironman or marathon, so I'd think two days prior to a half marathon sounds about right. Her guideline is 10g of carbs for every kilo of body weight, which I actually find comically impossible to do (but it's kind of fun trying!)

YAY. more oatmeal and peanut butter and maybe the tofurkey sandwich tonight. And cookies!

Hah. I love food. All kinds, but especially peanut butter and carbs.

Me too. The first time she told me to carbo load to top off my glycogen stores I was like woohoo! I've never been able to get close to 10g/kilo but, pasta! And potatoes! And cereal! Aloo chole over rice, with naan... triple the carbs, triple the fun!

I got new shoes today! I went to a store and we did the gait analysis and customized fitting, and as it turns out I was wearing shoes that were totally wrong for my feet. Putting on running shoes that actually fit well was a very eye opening experience for me.

Nebraskalaska, I know. It's insane the difference shoes can make. I got fitted last august with asics and I think I'm not going to stray from that brand until they let me down. I ran for a week in my old merrell trail runners (not the running shoes I had prior, just usually used for hiking) and developed shin splints. Figures.

I have my half tomorrow! I've eaten a ton of cookies, oatmeal and peanut butter today and feel kind of gross but I figure with the highish miles of biking I'm doing today plus the 40 miler after my half tomorrow.. I'll need the extra easily available calories. eh. Super excited and really hoping that this puncture wound I accidentally gave myself on my bike on thursday night continues on the trajectory of 'getting better' that it's been doing for the last 48 hours.

I ran the Vancouver 1/2 marathon this morning. The route was great and the weather was glorious! I took it really easy and ran basically a Sunday pace, finishing in 2:12. Great running day!

lillianp: I hope you had a awesome race today too!

Nice job! Lots of people racing today (I saw luckyklutz's shiny new marathon finisher's medal on fb!) I'm a little envious of you, studio. I sure would have loved to run Vancouver again this year. Such a fantastic course.

Studio, you're awesome! I found my friends this morning pre-race and got to hang out with my mom too. I had a semi-reach goal of sub-2 hour half marathon. By clock time, I came in at 1:59:54.3 and by chip time, I came in at 1:59:09.2 so I'm really really happy with it.

One of they guys I know was #4 with a time of 1:23:07. He just started running like 6 months ago. He's just one of those 'naturals'. But I think my next goal will be to get under a 9 minute mile. I was 9:06 for this one.

..I also did a 43 mile bike ride with a break for a huge bowl of delicious food from a veggie restaurant. I'm really really sore now.

Congratulations on your half time and reaching your goal!! That's always so exciting. And adding the 43 mile bike ride is even more impressive!
