I screwed up really bad today. Usually I drink about 24+ oz of water before I run, but I skipped it this morning because I was tired of peeing so much. Big mistake! The last 3 miles were hell because I was so tired and dehydrated. I felt faint and nauseous right when I stopped running, and threw up after getting home. Never doing that again.

On the bright side, I did 12 miles today and it was my longest run ever! It was also my longest consecutive run before my half marathon (next week I'm doing about 10 in the morning and a 5k race in the evening, though). I'm proud of myself for not quitting, even though I probably should have quit.

12 miles is amazing, good for you! Speaking of water, my last drink was about 45 minutes before my race. I'm not sure if that was the problem, or maybe the extreme humidity, but I had an awful time. In the last mile I got nauseous, but thankfully it passed. It seemed like everyone was struggling, the course was out and back, so as the faster people were coming back for the last half I heard someone moaning and making all kinds of noise with every step. I had to laugh at that, every step was basically torture for me too.

6 miles is starting to feel easier! Only 20 more miles and 3.5 months til the marathon!

Yay mooo!

I ran before work this morning instead of after work and the cool weather made ALL THE DIFFERENCE. It was still humid as heck, but not crazy hot.

So I posed before that I was pondering running a full in October vs. the half that I was planning and this new Oatmeal comic is kind of pushing me toward the full, in a weird way.

He used to be on my triathlon team. Like, the year before I joined. This should be in the Dubious Claim to Not-Quite-Fame thread...

Also, I laughed and laughed at that one, especially the "definition" of the word marathon.

The bizarre ways of measuring distances made me laugh and laugh. I do that all the time. "ONLY 7 MORE MILES TO GO! That's only an out and back on the trail near my house, plus one mile!"

MT I'm super jealous of your link to the Oatmeal!

Thanks for posting that, it made me snortle at work. (That is when you both snort and chortle, with bonus points if you try to swallow it and it comes out twice as bad.)

I do the distance comparison thing all. the. time.

Since I got a gps watch I'm trying to figure out the heart rate training zones. I did a long run (well, long for me at 9k) yesterday and tried to keep my pulse below 160. I think that was about right for an "easy" run, maybe it should have been a little lower still.

I had really wanted to do Beat the Blerch, but it sold out crazy fast and the wait-list is really long even after they added an extra day. Maybe next year!

I forgot to turn off my watch after my run, until I heard it beep at me as I was driving home. Now I have a fastest mile time of 1 minute 45 seconds.

Hate when I do that! Or when I forget to stop it at the end of track and stand around chit-chatting and have my last mile show up as 23 minutes and change.

Love the comic, thanks lobsteriffic. The longest race I have run is a half but I am that annoying woman in the pink t-shirt - a puppie!, ooh tulips!, I am amazing!, high five the kids!

I am still wavering on running a full this fall - maybe I will print this out for motivation.

Also I was thinking about it, and around mile 20 in my first/only marathon I was totally weepy over any little thing. Like an inspirational sign, someone cheering really loudly, etc.

So bummed. I was supposed to be racing a half marathon tomorrow and my tempo runs have been going really well. Fhen I threw up my dinner last night and have only been able to keep down about 8oz of water and four bites of toast since. No fuel to run on, no race, even if I feel better in the morning (so far, I don't anyway.)

Ha, love that Oatmeal!

Bummer, monkeytoes. Hope you feel better soon!

amonik, 160 seems high for an easy run but everyone is different. Have you figured out your max and resting heart rates?

Had a really nice 8 miler this morning, felt easy and my legs felt fresh the entire way. Marathon training week #1 finished! 17 more to go! (I still haven't decided if I'm going to run the full or the half, but I figure I'll train for the full and see what happens)

My resting heartrate yes, my max - I'm not sure. I tried to do a test but I'm not sure it worked that well. Will do it again some time. I think 160 may be a little high too, will continue to try to figure it out.

Yay! I just finished my final long run before my half marathon! And tonight I'm running my first race ever! The race is at a hot air balloon festival, so it's going to be rad. I'm excited/nervous!

Apparently I came in second in my age group. Was not expecting that! I also got a new PR, and shaved a full minute and a half off my previous time.
