Hey everyone!

I'm new to posting here, so I thought I'd introduce myself. First off, I've been vegan for over five years now. It started with the book "Skinny B*tch" and then P90X found me back in 2008. I haven't looked back. Since I completed 3 rounds of X and lost 50 lbs, I did the full monty of Turbo Fire, then back to X, then Insanity, then P90X2, then Asylum (both volumes), then Les Mills Pump, then I was messing with figuring out a "tri-brid" of X, Body Beast and Asylum, but I was just bouncing around from Les Mills Combat to Pump (I sold that set), back to orig X, some X2, and now I'm sitting pretty with the the Asylum hybrid of Volume 1 and Volume 2, with Body Beast shoulders dvd's on the Friday rest day. And yes, I am a coach.

Whew! That took a while!

Ok, so I'm reading some of the posts, and it appears like you guys all got certain issues. I have degenerative disc disease in my lower back, and while P90X got the "late" baby fat off me (I'm 46, lol), it was Insanity and The Asylum that TOTALLY built up my core and made me very strong around my spine. I still have my moments where I need to modify, but after so many years of tinkering, I've pretty much got them figured out, from how to protect my back during ab work, to easing the stress/pain off my wrists/forearms and hands for all plank work, to modifying where need be if my back is bugging me.

The dvd's that cause me the most trouble? Yoga. Seriously. My neck hurts, my lower back is just SORE after that, and even my legs get really sore - like I just did BB "Build: Legs". Seriously.

But I trudge through. I'm on week 2 of my Asylum hybrid, and I think I'm going to stick with it through the entire winter, again, incorporating Body Beast Build and Bulk Shoulders on the Friday scheduled rest days. Asylum, to me, is the toughest of all the Beachbody programs. I haven't tried the Gamma phase of Focus T25 yet, but I have a feeling it's a very compact version of Volume 2, with lots and lots of burpees.

I've been rather laid back on the coaching thing, but I have no problem helping anyone who needs it, even if you already have a coach. Oh, and I'm hedging towards a raw vegan diet now. Tough to do during a Chicago winter, but that's what doortodoororganics is for, lol. Right now I'm about 70%. I'm 46, female, 5'8, and 125 lbs. My best short term results came from Insanity and The Asylum, but my legs grew with those. I'm trying to grow my back and shoulders out. I hope that will be my next achievement.

If anyone wants to friend me on Facebook, my url is sfdcubfan.

Happy Tuesday!!!!
-Sandy

Welcome to the thread, sfdcubfan! What do you eat that's not raw? I have a vegan friend who was 80% raw for a long time and her only non-raw food was beans and rice. She's not raw any more, but loved it at the time.

How are your knees doing, RandiJM?

Today is Day 91 for me: X-Stretch! Last day of P90X! Tomorrow I do the post-P90X fitness test and take my after measurements and photos.

It was so much fun, I'm going to keep doing it because I love being in such great shape. I have lost all my baby weight and can do pull-ups, so I made both my P90X goals. I'm a lot better at push-ups, too, although I still have a lot of room for improvement. I haven't been this limber since I was a teenager!
That said, I'm not going to be quite as strict about the programme from now on -- for example, if we go on a day-trip and I walk 8 miles carrying a baby like I did last fortnight, that day won't count as my rest day for the week. ;D And if my schedule is really packed, I can just do Ab-ripper and maybe 15 minutes of yoga and call it a day.

Hey Crafter!

Been trying to reduce my consumption of processed foods, but let's face it, I'm a junkie, so stuff like the "Thumbs Up!" bar from Go Max Go Foods (it's a vegan Butterfinger bar) is wicked hard to pass up, and I refuse to do it. Why? Because then I'll gorge myself.

I like to think I have absolute control over things, and in certain areas of my life I do. But when it comes to finding thing like vegan pastries, are you kidding me? I can't pass those up! That's why I say I'm "around" 70% raw.

"Purposeful" foods that I eat that aren't raw include cooked faro, wheatberry, quinoa, roasted nuts, and some of the faux meats like products from Beyond Meat, Gardein, Viana and Tofurkey. I also have Amy's Kitchen products in my freezer (burrito's, Veggie Loaf), but I try to stay as clean as possible.

P90X is an AWESOME program. It's awesome that you achieved your goals, but why stop there? Why not set new ones? When you say pull-ups, do you mean chin ups or wide grip pullups? How many of the Corncob pullups can you do without assistance? What about plyo pushups or the one-handed? Can you do those on your feet? It took me three full dedicated rounds before I could do those pushups on my feet. After 5 years, I still need assistance on the more structurally difficult pullups, and with those, I may opt to just work the negative.

I always tell my clients not to reinvent the wheel. Walking 8 miles whilst carrying a baby is SPECTACULAR (and kudo's to you for doing it!), but that kind of thing could replace Kenpo, for example, but not plyo. And if you are seeking the utlimate challenge, you might want to look into getting Insanity or P90X2 (or P90X3, scheduled for release on Dec 10th). X2 will work your core to death because you're balancing on medicine balls and a stability ball. The pullups get WAY more difficult as well, but talk about a challenge - holy moly!

Also, if you can get the dvd, try to find the Tony Horton One-on-One "Fountain of Youth." It's Yoga-X, but condensed down to 45 minutes. And those blasted half moons are done EARLY in the dvd. You could also do the Kenpo warmup 2-3 times in lieu of yoga if need be. But stick to the basics and keep up with your worksheets. Set new goals and blow past them. Check out Insanity and see if you can get some of the dvd's shipped across the pond, and do a hybrid. The opportunities to challenge yourself are endless. :)

Raw nuts and dried fruit are the foods that challenge my willpower the most. They are so good! And peanut butter.

I can do 1-3 unassisted wide-grip pull-ups in a row. I can do plyo push-ups on my feet, but can only clap if I am on my knees. I can do one-handed push-ups on my feet, but not as deep as I'd like (yet). I do want to get better at pull-ups and push-ups in general -- I'd like to be as good as Dreya or Maren -- but I don't have (or need) any specific goals other than that. I don't want to lose any more weight or get more bulk muscle (I did the 'lean' version of P90X/12-15 reps!), and at this point, I'm happy with being in good shape, eating well, and exercising every day.

I think P90X is working well for me. I like it so much -- I don't have any complaints, I like all the work-outs, and I'm not bored with it. If that changes, I can move on or do some kind of hybrid.

That reminds me, I need to order 'Tony and the Kids!'

Crabby which was was Maren? Oh my goodness I know it's been too long if I'm forgetting all the characters! (I'll never forget Bobby Stevenson or Daniel Hass, I love them. <3)

I have been working crazier hours lately and I had a extra hard time fitting in workouts this past week. I hate how I feel all day if I don't work out, but I couldn't cut back any more on my measly sleep! Ughh. I don't really know what kind of solution there is to that. I REALLY don't know how you guys who have children do it. I couldn't imagine. Today's max cardio workout was HARD! A combo of the past week mostly off and the cold I got from being exhausted made me huff and puff like whoa. Hate that!

I'm getting really curious about CrossFit. I don't know if I would be comfortable working out with other people, and it's ridiculously expensive, but I would like to try something else to get stronger. Unlessss you think P90X is just as good? I could go back to that some days.

Hey Randi,

Here's my suggestion, and if you have a Team Beachbody coach, you should check in with that person. Crossfit is great if you're structurally sound. It's also great if you have the $300 per month to jump on a box or whatever. BUT, if you've got P90X, I would go back to that, and do it for a round (full tilt), and then do a hybrid of X and Insanity.

Then you should buy Insanity: The Asylum - both volumes, and when you have mastered those (which could take a year, that's how tough it is), move on to P90X2. Here's why - CrossFit is based on functional fitness. So is Asylum, tho it's more sports related. P90X2 combines it all into some serious heavy duty full body core work, and Asylum is the best preparation for it. Yes, it's better prep than just X and Insanity alone. While there are no Clean and Jerks, no rope climbing or pushing a 275 lb sled 100 yards, etc., you are doing a ton of stuff with an agility ladder in Asylum that pro athletes use. In X2, you are doing things on the pullup bar that I'm not sure even CrossFit people can do (google The Lever pullup and then Frank Medrano, watch his video's).

What I'm saying is that you can get it all from the privacy of your home, with people on the video's who are struggling to keep up, and if you can get through Asylum's workouts while still able to carry on a conversation, you will be in amazing shape. There's this move in Gameday, where Shaun T is talking about rock climbing. One of the moves is staying pulled up on the pullup bar (like you're on a ledge), and you just keep changing grips - for TWO minutes. The other horror move in rock climbing is a plyometric tricep pushup in a jack pushup mode. Awesome.

Maren (Tony pronounces it like 'Morraine') is the girl in 'Chest and Back' who does push-ups and pull-ups like a champ. I LOVE her. My favourite cast members are always changing, but right now I am getting a kick out of Phil, his sense of humour is so dry and, I love how Tony is all, "now this is an intense face."

I don't know anything about CrossFit, but I would think P90X could get you pretty strong. I'd say work some of the P90X chesty-backy-army-leggy videos back in to your routine and if that doesn't work, look into CrossFit.

I feel rough if I don't work out every day, too! Can you do mini work-outs during your lunch break (if you get a lunch break) or maybe try to fit in ab-ripper somewhere in the morning or evening?

I once saw this crazy work-out on Supreme Master TV (some vegetarian channel here) which had this zany fruitarian called Jericho Sunfire, who says to do his routine if you don't have a lot of time. It's so intense, but under 5 minutes -- I think they had the host do it and he did it in under 4. At least 60 push-ups as fast as you can, go right into the Russian Twist (Mason Twist) as fast as you can for (my memory fails me here, 1 or 2 minutes?), and then do 100 squats as fast as you can. It looked gruelling, but at least it was over fast! ;D

Hi all, haven't done much Beachbody lately because I've been following STS, but popped in to see how everyone is doing. Crafty, sounds like you had an awesome round of P90X - nice job!

RandiJM, since you like Insanity so much, I would think you'd dig Asylum. Its crazy hard and there is a little bit more strength training than Insanity. P90X is definitely more of a strength training program than Insanity, but if you use challenging enough weights and eat well you'll for sure get stronger. I just don't know if you are into weightlifting or like the cardio aspect more? Crossfit (I don't do Crossfit, so full disclosure) seems like its more circuit-based so there is probably more cardio than p90X. Meggs is into it and I'm sure she'd be happy to answer questions.

Thanks cubfan. I think I was being swayed by the allure of CrossFit because it's so trendy and popular and I didn't want to be left out. Haha. It's pretty crazy to think that for one month's membership I could buy allll the BeachBody programs that I don't have... Yeah, decision made!

Crabby! Oh yeah, Maren is the one who was actually in porn! Hahahah this is the GREATEST HEADLINE EVER http://www.fitbomb.com/2010/07/marens-i ... erman.html

Jericho Sunfire is my favorite new name. OMG. Wait so you get Supreme Master TV as a station on your tv? Like the same thing that they show in Loving Hut restaurants??? Amazing.

Thanks for the tip emmalv. I'm intimidated by Asylum because of the extra equipment (ladders?? Where shall I put that!) but it sounds awesome. And I did talk to Meggs about it, funny you suggested her! I <3 her. And all of you :) Thanks!

Yeah, I discovered the channel whilst trying to find cooking shows one day. I wish we had Loving Hut restaurants here! There is this great show on that channel, "Vegetarianism: The Noble Way of Living," which is all vegan and has fantastic (and some not so fantastic, but mostly fantastic) recipes -- the show is pretty low-fi and looks like they just had people from all over the world submit home videos of their recipes.

Yeah, I love the name Jericho Sunfire, too!

And Maren! I love her and I love German potato soup. And that headline.

Maren! OMG. I have a hard time reconciling this with laughy German Potato Soup Maren.

Regarding Asylum, the extra equipment isn't bad. IMO you'll need some weights (but you don't need a whole set of super heavy ones) and a jump rope. He does some pullup stuff but has a floor modification so you don't need a pullup tower or bar. And I didn't use a ladder; I just used the squares of my tile floor :) However, if you don't have that option it would be easy enough to just buy some clothesline rope and construct one yourself. And then storage wouldn't be an issue - you could just wad it up and throw it in the corner. P90X2 on the other hand requires you to buy out your local Sports Authority...

P90X3 looks SO fun and crazy, and I've heard not great things about P90X2. Do you think skipping 2 and going right to 3 is a possibility, or is there too much foundation that would be missed?

I asked my hubs for P90X3 for Christmas, and he was hesitant because at some point he learned you shouldn't buy people presents like that, but I told him it's okay since I asked for it :D I'm so excited about 30 minutes vs. 60+. I'm doing NaNoWriMo now and I haven't worked out in a week? Alas.

Hi Sandy! I used to be a coach but it's not my thing so I quit and got a new coach, who was nice enough to send me a free packet of the tropical Shakeology, which I don't really enjoy. Alas.

Appi at least you are getting your writing done! Congrats! I haven't worked out in 3 days because of work and I HATE it. I feel awful. I don't care how early I have to get up tomorrow (she says now) but I'm going to exercise.

Appi did you do P90X2? I love that you had to reassure husband that it was ok. It's totally true! I remember seeing an episode of Family Matters, when I was like 8, where the dad bought the mom a gym membership and a mini trampoline for some holiday and he didn't get why that was bad. Stuck with me!

Okay, I started Focus T25 today in hopes of getting back into the habit of exercising everyday. Definitely fallen off the wagon hard over the last few months, and I'm sick of feeling pudgy and less energetic. I liked that I could keep up with all of the moves today (modified a few, love that they show the modified version too.) Also, 25 minutes a day is my ideal time period, so let's hope I can keep it up. Anyone else done this?

I watched an infomercial for T26, looked awesome! Glad you enjoyed it! I think Asylum is next on my list, but T25 is definitely something I'd be happy to try.

Crabby! You're amazing!

Over the holiday, I did my morning Insanity workouts at my parents' house with my brother and sister-in-law and various others milling about and they all kind of watched as I did bits of it. I've never been more embarrassed, but I also was kind of spurred to kick asparagus, you know? I definitely took fewer breaks...not that I FELT up to it but I had to save face, haha.

I got the Insanity Fast & Furious workout in the mail today! I'm so excited. It's about 20-25 minutes so I thought it might be better for work days when I have to go in early. I'll keep you posted!

Fast & Furious is HARD! Really hard! Maybe because I didn't get to warm up properly but I was huffing like a huffer. I like it! It is just ShaunT, Anna (the best), and a new guy named Martin who was taking so many breaks Shaun made fun of him. Haha.
