Half-iron coming up on Saturday, which will be my last pre-Ironman race! Hoping to take a chunk of time off last year's race on the same course, mostly off the run.

Thanks! I'm so excited for an extra bagel this morning... I love pre-race carb loading days!

Welp, my swim was 6 minutes faster than last year. My bike was about the same, but it was really windy today so I wasn't too fussed about not picking up time there. I've been running so well off the bike and really only needed to run 10s to hit my goal. But I got hit by a truck on the run. That is not a metaphor; I actually got hit by a kid driving a truck. I'm scraped and bruised and my Garmin is badly battered, but I think that I'm essentially OK. He was booked on suspicion of DUI.

It's a rural area with huge wide shoulders on the roads. The course is open to traffic with sheriff's deputies at intersections to give us the right of way. This was a smaller side road with very little car traffic so it shouldn't have been an issue, just residents accessing their homes from the main road. I've done this run twice before; drivers go slow and runners hug the sides of the road when a car goes by. No problem. They may need to reconsider the course and keep it all out on the main road with the shoulders coned off for the athletes...

Holy crepe, MT!! I'm so sorry that happened but I am glad you weren't (seriously) hurt! How are you feeling otherwise? That kind of stuff can really shake you up.

I didn't really think I was that shaken up until I was walking through the grocery store parking lot and flinched when a car next to me started. :/ I am feeling OK. Stiff and sore, probably partly the 5 hours of racing I'd put in and partly the impact and fall. crapes and road rash and bruises will heal. Hopefully I'm not losing too much training time.

7 days 'til Ironman Florida!

My getting-hit-by-a-truck injuries proved very minor and I really only had to scale back training for a week or so. I still have a shadow of the worst bruise on my bum, and there's a road rash scar on my shoulder (hopefully that will fade in time.) But my battered Garmin and I are ready to take on the next challenge. Getting antsy, actually.

MT, I'm really glad you are recuperating so well from that truck accident. I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for your Ironman report!

Apparently I liked doing 98.3% of an Ironman so much that I am signed up to do 100% of one next fall. IMAZ2015, here I come!

Watching NBC's Kona broadcast this morning (I missed the live stream on race day because I had a long training day.) Can't wait to watch Rinny run down her competitors; she's a beast and her run is a thing of beauty.

What I should be doing is writing my race report.

Haha, so does my coach... I have a rough draft done. I'll post it when I have it finished (after I've sent it to T!)

MT: how is your training going? The daily workout thread has been a little quiet and I'm wondering how you are doing post IronMan. Are you in off-season/base building or are you back in a training cycle?

Oh, I am off-off-season, like not even base building. Total laziness. I have been going to team swims every other week and have run a small handful of times, and ignored everything else on my schedule. This is really the first time i have taken an off season in four years. Six weeks is long enough though. Time to buckle down!
