I love couch to 5K! I did it twice - the first time I wasn't really serious about it and kinda slacked off (the last weeks...every day became a week's worth of workouts because I wanted to avoid the long runs). I was also running mostly on a treadmill and not outside. When I ran on trails or in my neighborhood, it sucked!
The second time I did couch to 5K, my friend who lived in Texas and I (live in Nebraska) signed up for a race. This was my motivation to keep running; I had some race in Tulsa (half way point) and wanted to be able to keep up with my friend. I also decided to not do any treadmill running, and I found it to be easier!
I loved the couch to 5k podcast (the one by Robert Ulrey). He is encouraging and cues all of the walks and runs. I found it for the second attempt, and it really helped! I wasn't paying having to look at my watch constantly. I highly recommend it!

This is the same podcast I use and for some reason I love that robot voice. Couch to 5k has been awesome to me over the summer! I'm actually running in a 5k on Sunday, wish me luck!

I think doing it together will be good for keeping him motivated... although he has much longer legs than me, so I doubt that we'll actually be 'together' for long.

How did it go?
I just did my first run/walk thing and it was actually fun. I didn't expect that. And yeah, it wasn't super easy but it was also totally doable. I guess I just need proper running shoes now. I assumed I could wait until next pay and just do the first week in my old Vans, but my feet seem to disagree. Bah!

But they're all so ugly!
But really, yeah, I definitely will. I just went out to dinner and realised while walking back to the car that my feet are in trouble. That, coupled with my overstuffed stomach, means a night of wallowing in self-pity for me!

Asics & Mizuno both make some vegan ones.

I actually ran better than I thought I would! Considering the first half is uphill, yuck.
I finished 41:39, which is quicker than the pace I've been training at. I totally sprinted at the end, too, thanks to the cheering crowd and my friend's cowbells.
An awesome finish for my first try!

Thank you guys!
I have no idea when the next one will be, but I need to something before I lose any motivation :-)

I've been sick so I have not been running. Boo.
I think today will be the last of the sniffles and whatever.
Back on track tomorrow! I did get the gloves and some undershirts to run in so I will be warm in the morning.

I am starting this when I get back from vacation. I come back Tues the 2nd. After jet lag and settling back into real life I should be ready to start on Sunday the 7th if anyone is starting then we can motivate each other!

Steffers! wrote: How is everybody else doing? What week are you on? Well, I found my stopwatch yesterday. That's about as far as I've gotten. And I determined I need new shoes and have picked them out. I have been doing some walking and some elliptical workouts to get my cardio level back to what it was pre-walking boot. Still not quite to the endurance I was before, but doing pretty well.

Where and when does everyone run when first starting out? I am admittedly embarrassed by the run and walk routine even though I should not be. I run where teenage boys have gym (it is really next door and the closest and quietest place that is not on the street.
I know I need to do it for me....but argh...
How did you all get through the initial "walk run who is looking at me" stage, if you had one?

I go to my gym, which has a women's only section downstairs with a treadmill in it. I go straight from work, and since I start pretty early I usually finish at 4, and there are only ever one or two other people in there at that time. I live on a main road, surrounded by more main roads, so I don't especially want to run while peak hour traffic stares at me.
Anyway, I did my second run today and it was still fun! I still don't have running shoes- I looked and they're all expensive enough that I would need to sell a kidney for some, and I'm pretty sure I'm using my kidneys- but I wore my old Volleys today and my feet feel heaps better. So yay, for now.

How did you all get through the initial "walk run who is looking at me" stage, if you had one? we just run around our neighborhood. there are usually a lot of people out and about, but i just got over it really fast. the first week was kind of annoying, but then i realized that I don't really care what people think about my exercise routine.
