I'm in the market for one. If you like yours, what kind do you have?

I have a Garmin 305 and I really like it. It is kind of big, but I quickly got used to it and now I don't even notice it.
To be honest, I mostly use it for time/distance rather than my heart rate. I found it fairly easy to set up and you can use it to do lots of different things or you can keep things pretty simple.

My husband also has a Garmin 305 and he really likes it. When i use it, it annoys me that sometimes it takes a few minutes to find the satellites but i think that's because i live in a city surrounded by tall buildings and not the fault of the monitor.

Oh yeah, it DOES take forever to find satellites. What I do is usually turn it on and leave it on a window sill while I'm getting my shoes on and stuff. By the time I'm ready to go it's found the satellites.

I am looking at heart rate monitors, too! I'm thinking about the Garmin Forerunner 110, but now I'm considering the 305, too. I'm going to keep an eye on this thread--good luck, sunnybear!

Garmin 305 enthusiast, absolutely all the way. It changed the way I run. And yeah, it takes a year and a half to find the satellites, but I'm in NYC. Don't care, I love my GPS/heart rate monitor. I got it initially for the time/distance aspect of it, but found myself falling in love with the heart rate feature. Now I'm able to get depressed when I haven't run in ages and my heart rate is high! yaaay

HRMs only really help if you have an idea of your specific heart rate zones.
i use one paired w/ a garmin edge 500 and it helps me get a feel for the output i can sustain and not blow up for 'X' amount of time/miles

Garmin 305 -- looks like I am in good company! I find it really useful, though I am a cyclist, not a runner. Still, the heart rate info is invaluable to me.

Thanks for all the feedback! I ended up going cheap and getting an Omron off of amazon. I've only used it once but it seems to do the job! I realized the other day when I was working out that my chest strap communications with the cardio machines at the gym so I don't always have to wear the watch. So that was pretty cool and unexpected :)
