I just bought one of these! My old bike was really old, uncomfortable and difficult to get up hill. I really wanted a good commuter bike so I could go down town and home without any trouble. I'm so excited about this purchase but I have to wait a few days before it arrives.

I didn't say it in my post, but mine is a Gary Fisher Tiburon. I don't see anything in here about Gary Fisher bikes... I like it pretty well though. I'm hoping to save up for a road bike (once I sell the automobile). I think it'll make for an easier commute.

You all have very nice-looking bikes! I will post mine soon. One's a beast (read: heavy) on road tires , the other is a 1974 racing bike that my mother's going to hand down to me hopefully.

Here is a few of my bikes. I miss them so much! Raleigh Professional, my nicest vintage road bike. Fixed gear. I picked up a locally built, vintage track frame over the winter and am dying to get home and swap the components over. For when I feel like hitting the trails. Janky Polo Machine!

Yea, maybe too many? and just bought another.. ill have to grab a picture thanks for the reminder :) at college we made a recumbent bike for a human powered vehicle competition and during our down time and we built a few tall bikes. there actually a blast to ride if you ever get a chance.

This is my baby. I have two other bikes (a 70s Schwinn and a fixie with some frame from the 50s or 60s) but Lola is my honeybunny: This was at my halfway point during my training ride last night, at Pt Isabel Regional Shoreline.

I'm thinking about getting a cheap commuter bike at Walmart. I have a Schwinn mountain bike, but it's oldish and needs a bit more work than I can afford at the moment. I mean, it's not like my Schwinn is out of commission or anything, but I kind of want something different. An $80 cruiser seems like a good deal. I mostly just plan on riding around town and to the grocery store with it. This one is pretty: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Huffy-Cranbro ... e/17012389Although, I kind of want a bike rack over the rear tire. :\

I'd say go used over Wal Mart. First, Wal Mart sucks, and second, their bikes are generally poorly made to begin with but made worse by the fact that they're often assembled extremely badly. You also won't get any maintenance, and anyone you talk to about a bike at Wal mart is probably not going to be able to answer important questions about safety or bike specs. If you are low on funds, rather than buying what is essentially a disposable bike, why not see about if there are any bike co-ops or repair workshops in your area? (this is a good place to start: http://www.bikecollectives.org/wiki/ind ... ions#Texas) You could either fix the bike you have now, or maybe see if they have programs where you can volunteer and in exchange, earn a bike/parts from the coop. In the alternative, you could see about finding a vintage bike on craigslist and then tuning it up at the co-op.

In the alternative, you could see about finding a vintage bike on craigslist and then tuning it up at the co-op. I agree completely about Walmart sucking, but I also used to work at this particular store so I know the assembly guy. He does a good job, so that's not something I'm particularly worried about. My Schwinn was from Walmart actually, and was bought about seven or eight years ago, and it would be in much better shape if it had been taken care of. >_< Unfortunately, various things happened, and I was only just reunited with my bike awhile ago. It wasn't stolen or anything, but it was left in the open air and was barely covered for a couple of years. Actually, I do have a bike shop in my area, and they do have a lot of information on their website, and after your post I thought they might sell used bikes. I didn't see anything on their site about it, but maybe they would know where I could find a cheap, used bike? I tried Google, but didn't find anything in the price range I was looking for (which is $100 or less). But I did find a few posts about selling stolen bikes. O_o; Weird. Craigslist and SoutheastTexas.com aren't giving me much either. -_- Ah, I'm sorry if I sound at all snarky. It's not my intention at all. Thank you very much for the link, by the way. I saw one in Houston, but I don't go there very often. Houstonian drivers scare the bejesus out of me. Ah...I should live in Austin. It would be such a cool place to live. :3
