Ugh!

I run primarily on crushed limestone trails. I've got a 25K race coming up in less than 2 weeks, and I really don't want to be stopping every couple miles to empty tiny rocks out of my shoes (as I've been doing on my long training runs).

Any advice to help keep the rocks out?! I've tried every different length of sock, just in case that mattered. (It didn't).

Halp!!

I don't have anything to add, but just a question. I recently moved here to Chicago. Where is there trail running here? Do you have to drive out to a park?

I third the gaiters suggestion.

by the way, if you are crafty you can sew your own gaiters.

Yes, gaiters! If you don't feel like making your own, you should be able to get a reasonably priced pair online from one of the outdoor gear outlet websites. Short, breathable ones seem like they would be great. They are also handy if there are any puddles where you run.

Thanks guys! I will check out the gaiters! Never heard of those :)

Erica - yeah, I'm in the suburbs so I use the forest preserve system. Most of the county preserves have good web sites with trail maps and such. Here's the Cook County site - go under Visit Us, and you'll see the hiking/walking option, or the trail map downloads:

Just gotta say, I got those Dirty Girl Gaiters, and they were fantastic!! 15.5 miles, and no rocks in my shoes :-D

Super lightweight - couldn't even tell I had anything extra on. They just felt like my socks.

Thanks, everybody!!
