One of my friends is GF (and allergic to cocoa) so I'd really like some good picnic/BBQ ideas.
I often get together with the same group of mates and try to bring something that everyone can enjoy. I'm hanging out with them for afternoon tea tomorrow and I'm bringing a raw pie (with chocolate, which I completely forgot about but oh well, next time I will remember) and some GF dips from VCon (White Bean Aioli and Mushroom-Walnut). I was thinking about doing the corn empanadas in Viva Vegan but do they travel OK?
I like skewers too, they are easy and you can chuck them on a barbie (I'm being really Aussie now), I guess I could do tofu, tempeh, polenta, mushrooms with marinade.
Anyway, here is a space to discuss vegan, GF food that travels well for picnics, BBQs, potlucks and all sorts of gatherings! Thanks in advance guys!

i would think the empanadas would travel nicely as long as they're packed so they don't move about too much. a raw pie sounds lovely and dips are always awesome! i didn't even think about skewers - brilliant! i usually bring bbq soy curls (with homemade bourbon bbq sauce), slaw, and a corn-green bean-caramelized onion salad to bbqs. i love to make Hell Yeah It's Vegan's rancho beans for potlucks: http://hellyeahitsvegan.com/?p=482 (omni approved, too!) and Ricki has a really awesome frittata recipe in her new ebook that would go over really great, too ( http://www.dietdessertndogs.com/cookboo ... iry-ebook/) - i made it this weekend using spinach, mushrooms, and bell peppers and it was amazing! i think it would be good as little individual frittatas you could pour into muffin tins and then bake. mmmmm!

The Prospect Park Potato Salad from V'Con is so amazing for picnics. Other ideas are roasted chickpeas, quinoa "taboulleh," pasta salad with your favorite GF pasta, fruit salads, and rice salads.

We're having our parents over for lunch this weekend so I need to make some awesome food. So far I'm thinking baked arancini, a rocket, walnut, apple salad, mini Sweet Potato Black Bean Burgers from Swell Vegan's zine, maybe the mushroom pate from VCon and my bf will have the bbq on so maybe I can do marinated mushrooms or skewers. happyfaced wrote: and Ricki has a really awesome frittata recipe in her new ebook that would go over really great, too ( http://www.dietdessertndogs.com/cookboo ... iry-ebook/) - i made it this weekend using spinach, mushrooms, and bell peppers and it was amazing! i think it would be good as little individual frittatas you could pour into muffin tins and then bake. mmmmm! Is that tofu-based? I'd love to make a quiche or frittata, I've tried some before with chickpea flour. My Mum offered to bring hers and while I used to love it, it's not vegan and I want most of the food to be vegan.

I would like to come to your next bbq, Kitteh.
I'm supposed to make a few picnic items this weekend for the first summer outdoor movie at the art museum! I'll have to check out the tomato onion salad. I don't remember seeing that in VV. Of course, there's so much good stuff! Another good picnic salad is the cool slaw from AFR. I'm hooked on it.
