I've always been intimidated by the idea of cooking Ethiopian food but it turned out to be totally easy and delicious. I used this recipe for the lentil stew: http://www.saveur.com/article/Recipes/E ... entil-Stew
And this recipe for the berbere, which was used with the lentils: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/ ... ere-104015 . This recipe was very forgiving of the fact that I was missing a few spices.
And this recipe for the yellow split peas: http://ethiopianrecipes.net/yellow-split-pea-stew/
I was kind of bummed that the yellow peas didn't get more mushy. I cooked them for an hour. It's something I'll have to experiment with.
I saw teff flour at the market but I didn't make injera because the recipe said I needed to let the flour sit for three days.

And that's my small novel about my dinner! If you haven't made ethiopian food yet, try it! I was able to sub out all of the oil with veg broth, so it's very low fat friendly if need be.

This looks amazing! I'm jealous of your food!

I always have to cook yellow split peas for a loooong time before they get mushy, and keep adding liquid.

That looks amazing! I must try cooking some Ethiopian cuisine! We have a local Ethiopian cafe that does a vegan platter & they do the yellow split pea dish, which is delicious, as well as this super-spicy red bean stew. Yum!

Beautiful! And I'm with you about the injera. Too much work.

Congrats! Cooking Ethiopian food is the best thing ever. My yellow peas always get mushy. Maybe use more water, higher heat, stir more often, or cook longer?

Looks super yum! We made ethiopian last night too, and we also didn't make injera because of the wait.

I took an immersion blender to my split peas. They ended up being too mushy!

Thanks for the kind words and the suggestions about the split peas, everyone! I'm giving it another go tomorrow. Yeah, ethiopian twice in a week, you can never have too much, right?! My only regret was not making collard greens.
