I visited a friend in Gothenburg, Sweden last month. We ate delicous things.


Marinated veggie kebabs that my friend made for me. We practically burnt them, but barbeque sauce cures all.



A misty outdoor brunch of Alpro pouring yogurt (this stuff, oh man this stuff!), fresh strawberries, bread, and other tasty treats.


A lemon-y roasted potato concoction. Grated Jerusalem artichokes and sunflower seeds made for a nice crispy topping. Parsley from the garden as a garnish.


A soy-creamy fake meat thing. Surprisingly addictive.

We also improvised a rhubarb pie using fresh rhubarb from the garden. Sadly no pictures were taken.

Is it wrong that the first thing I saw was the three non-vegan dairy products in the second picture? Anyway, the vegan eats look lovely, but I absolutely HATE that the Alpro yoghurt is sweetened. Plain sweetened yoghurt is a daft idea if you ask me...

OMG yes and there is one those "happy cows" ont the yogurt package :P

I actually hemmed and hawwed over posting it for that specific reason, but I figured the vegan eats were the most prominent part of the picture anyway. And actually one of the big yogurt buckets is holding fruit smoothie, although there's no way to tell.

I also definitely agree that Alpro is much too sweetened, but I still love the idea of pourable yogurt.

The Alpro pouring yoghurt is actually less beany than the other Alpro yoghurts so it's a shame it's sweetened. I mostly buy Carlshamn plain when I buy soy yoghurt because it's the most versatile (and I can use it to cut flavoured ones to make them less toothachingly sweet).

i was so impressed by how many vegan yoghurts Swedish markets had. I walked into 2 and there were walls of them! So jealous.

There are a few different versions, but the flavour selection is slim: plain, vanilla, strawberry, blueberry. I get ridiculously happy in the rare instances I find something else! This depends on where you live, I'm sure, but that's the case where I live. We also have depressingly few flavour choices for icecream.

Perhaps. But I like plain yogurt, and there was lots of that (and in huge quantities, compared to what I can find here). Ditto for ice cream. Elsewhere in the Netherlands, you can find more. But in Groningen, at least, everything comes with weird sugars and I don't like it. I'd love to have Sweden's quality, even if it means fewer flavors.
