I would be skeptical of the carrot-hot dog thing, but I tried Isa's roasted carrot pigs in a blanket and they really did, weirdly, taste exactly like hot dogs.

Looks good!

The warning about not overmarinating is a good one. I think I overmarinated mine and they were rather vinegary and not so hotdoggy. But I am def going to try again after these great pictures!

YUM!

The pictures (here and on the recipe page) really do make me want to try it. So hot dog-like!

My one thing about a carrot hot dog, is I feel like maybe I'll be really hungry later? Will it really fill you up?

I keep seeing these and I kind of assumed they'd be pretty disappointing, but maybe I shouldn't be too quick to judge!

Hmm... I wonder if this could get my son to eat carrots?

I just tried these. I marinated 6 hours and think I'm going to skip adding the salt next time since between the vinegar and the braggs, it's fairly salty. They taste just like hot dogs though! It was really rather alarming haha if the texture was different I would be sure I got meat'd. Didn't have buns so I just ate them on bread with mustard, onions, tomatoes, and jalapenos. Next time I'm going to try for a chili cheeze dog because I think it would be awesome.

I surprisingly don't own a vegetable peeler so I peeled two carrots with a paring knife and left two with their shells on. We'll see tomorrow how it goes!

Curiouser and curiouser. I want to try this but I'm afraid it'll be like the time I made a 'cabbage steak' when a load of people were raving about it on a vegan group.

That is EXACTLY what I thought, too, especially with Halloween getting close...!

Seriously, though: mind. blown.

I want to do this with baby carrots and puff pastry to make pigs in blankets!

I haven't tried it because it seems to good to be true- and yes, like some elaborate prank.

But this thread has changed my mind.

I'm wondering if the original idea came from Thug Kitchen - their new cookbook that was just released, Party Grub, has a recipe for carrot dogs in it.

I've seen carrot dogs around for a while now. I know isa had a recipe a few years back. Can't remember if it was on the blog or in recipe testing.
