All three look delicious, I especially want the fruit bread. I've seen hot cross buns here in Canada, but I don't think they're overly popular here!

Your buns look gorgeous. I've heard about them from the song, but I've never eaten one.

I love hot cross buns! They're one of my favourite things ever, I kind of go crazy when I first see them at the supermarket ech year and buy like 30 bags full. I should really try to make my own. Yours look perfect!

Hot cross buns are awesome! I've only really seen them in the springtime, around Easter.
One day, I'll stop being afraid of forking up anything yeast and start baking breads.

When I was a kid we had hot cross buns for breakfast. I lived in a suburb of Boston. YUM!
Just looking at them brings back the smell...::sigh::

What do they taste like? They're light in texture like a regular bun but are sweet with mixed spice and mixed fruit. The spice is quite subtle.

Thank you for all your lovely comments! And all of you who haven't ever had hot cross buns you have to go out and get some as soon as you possibly can (which might not be til easter!), they're one of my favourite types of bread. 8ball wrote: They're light in texture like a regular bun but are sweet with mixed spice and mixed fruit. The spice is quite subtle. I think that's a pretty much perfect description of how they should be, though I always remember the ones from the shops being kind of heavy and doughy, but mine were quite light. Traditionally they're made with mixed spice, though now you can get all sorts of different varieties from the supermarket, like apple and cinnamon, chocolate chip, with nuts. sayco~cake wrote: look so good! do u have a recipe for the plain white bread ? I think that loaf is Rose Levy Beranbaum's basic soft white sandwich bread, the recipe is here. Swap the butter with margarine, the honey with agave and soy milk for the dry milk, there are instructions for swapping dry milk with liquid at the bottom of the recipe, if you have soy milk powder I expect that would work too. kara kara wrote: One day, I'll stop being afraid of forking up anything yeast and start baking breads. Don't be scared! Making bread is really easy, you might need a little practise before you can turn perfect loaves out every time, but as long as you follow a good recipe it should turn out fine. My only advice is to not add too much flour, I used to add loads whilst kneading so my dough didn't stick to the counter but I've since learned that it's alright if it sticks a bit, wetter dough gives you better bread. This is a pretty simple but good recipe, the one I linked to above is a bit more work but makes great bread, and if you want something sweet the maple brown sugar pinwheels in veganomicon are delicious and the dough for them is a dream to work with.
