I subscribe to Epicurious.com emails because it is one of my favorite databases for recipes going back many years. This 4th of July they sent out an email, "The Ultimate Vegetarian BBQ Main" and I couldn't resist!

I pre-steamed the cabbage so it wouldn't take too long on my gas grill:

Then, on top of an independence day appropriate beer can it went (live free or die!), coated in bbq sauce:

Viola! Basically done with some tempeh & polenta cubes + grilled onions in the background:

Oooooh Yeaahhhh:

Unfortunately my final shot with broccoli slaw and potato salad didn't come out great because I was hungry! but hopefully you get the idea. It really was delicious!!! A lot of work for cabbage, but definitely a fun special-occasion showpiece sort of dish.

That looks awesome! So does the beer bubble up and flavor the inside of the cabbage? I'm so curious. I sadly do not have a grill. It's on my list of things to buy some day!

Yes it basically steams the cabbage from the inside with beer-scented steam. It isn't a super strong flavor, but I could taste it a little. I think it helped that I used a strong IPA.

I was really excited to try this over the 3 day weekend. I had my purple cabbage ready to go. I even found a bitter salty IPA (imo total eww) as suggested. I was gonna take pictures and everything!

Then it rained all day. I was a sad Tofu... But I will not forget this! There will be cabbage grilling!

Told Mr Moon about beer can cabbage and he basically lost his mind. Might try to bang one out this weekend.
