queenofpainting - There's an explanation in the book about the German origins. I think it's just a traditional cake made in Germany.
graffiti - I used cinnamon and brown sugar on top.

Beautiful! I've made that one too, I found I needed to add cake spice to the batter, or else it was a bit bland.

I made this cake for a dinner party and they sliced it up into 6 pieces and ate the whole thing. Huge hit. "you can bring this anytime" was the response, and it was super easy to make - all things i had in the house.
