Went to Tai Nam this week... Twice! I decided to start making my own Thai/East Asian food (my favorite kind <3) to save money on ordering out.

Ze spread of grocery goods.

Image

Drunken noodles with tofu--very spicy! It's my personal favorite dish.

Image

Pad thai with mushrooms 'cause I ran out of tofu. Also pictured in the back are some potstickers.

Image

Uncooked potstickers filled with ground seitan (made meself), mushrooms, ginger, Chinese cabbage, veggie oyster sauce, etc. I made four dozen of these suckers (not pictured)!

Image

Daiya mozz pizza. We didn't have any nooch at my mom's house so we sort of settled on something simple.

Image

Melty shot. I swear I didn't eat this much soy dairy before Daiya came along. It's to Daiya for!

Image

Vegweb mac 'n cheese. <3<3<3

I started off of this one but made some adjustments based on what I had (no golden mountain, added shallots). I also didn't measure anything... I just eyeballed it and balanced everything out until it was similar to the stuff I usually get from restaurants here. The basil I got was actually packed in a jar of oil from Whole Foods, but the flavor's all there. Something tells me you could sub regular basil and add something with elements of licorice and up the heat with more chilies, but who knows if that would fool someone with a refined palate.

Green curry and vegetable udon are next! I might also attempt fried rice, my favorite childhood dish.

please cook for me.

(also, daiya isn't soy-based).

I just looked at the ingredients. Strange!

None, I just perused different recipes to get a feel for what I needed and the rough ratio of ingredients. Sorry, I'm of no help at all! Haha.

Also, I just realized I wrote that the macaroni and cheese is from Vegweb (???). It's the VegNews one! So good.

I know someone else already said it but as soon as I saw your pictures the first thing that came to my mind was, "Please cook for me!" So jealous of all of your asian ingredients.

Amazing spread! That makes me want to run out to the Asian grocery store RIGHT NOW. Homemade potstickers? WANT.

Beautiful! Everything looks so delicious. Drunken noodles are unstoppable. I'm going to our local gargantuan Asian mart this weekend and I can't wait to stock up. That's my favorite kind of coconut milk!

I would HIGHLY recommend picking up a bottle of Golden Mountain if you have a chance. It's super-cheap, and it gives Thai dishes a little je ne sais quoi. Very unique flavor.

I couldn't find any where I went, but I'm also going to go hit up the gargantuan Asian mart (Super H Mart) and see if they have any.

And thanks, everyone.

If you can't find Golden Mountain, let me know -- there's a ton of it at a couple of the Asian marts I usually go to and I can mail it out. It really helps to nail down that authentic Thai takeout taste in home cooking.

If you're ever in Milwaukee, you should hit up Pacific Produce. Intense!

Thanks. I'll check if the Thai shop here has Golden Mountain sauce. The oyster sauce will have to go...
