I got the recipe here:
http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/11/2 ... nksgiving/

OK, the stuffing was AMAZING, but the marinade? man it was bad...each bite of the mushroom was like biting into an alcohol swab...I'm gonna make it again sometime with my own damn marinade. Unless you folks can look at the recipe and see if I missed something, but it was DAMN alhoholic..and I even used good wine!

It looks really good.. bummer about the winey marinade!.. I love cooking with wine, but use it very judiciously.

I should say that the stuffing called for a tablespoon of smoked paprika, but I used about a 1/2 tablespoon...a whole tbl sounded pretty excessive...should anyone wanna give the recipe a shot

that really blows.

I smoked them in the oven using the oven directions. When I went back to the Times site, there were a few complaints about the recipe I should have read....ah well.
Definitely going to make again with a different marinade though!

Yeah, I should have clued in when you told me how much wine was in the marinade. I made a mushroom barley soup, and the broth for that would have been a great marinade for the portobellos. By comparisson to the 2 cups of wine in the original recipe marinade, my soup had a half cup of wine and 4 cups of veggie broth, plus garlic, tamari, and spices.

I hate it when marinades ruin an otherwise perfectly good dish. Alcoholy would be the worst, I usually ened up with them tasting too vinegary. bleeccchhhh.
