I made the lemon-mustard tofu on Sunday night and cannot stop thinking about it. So good.

molly wrote: I made the lemon-mustard tofu on Sunday night and cannot stop thinking about it. So good. Yes! I made that the other night, too! so good and so easy! Tonight I made the jamaican plantain and pumpkin curry. so good! I haven't had chayote in years, but i think it's my new favorite thing. I added pigeon peas and it was so good! I don't think calabaza is my favorite type of squash though, or maybe the one i got was old. it was just too stringy for me. I'd use kabocha next time. but whatever, it was delish with coconut rice!

I can't wait to try so many things in the book. I think I'll make the posole first (because I have a can of hominy I'd like to use) and I want to try some soft tortillas again and I have potlucks and stuff coming up for Christmas, and I think I'll make the date semolina squares (dessert) for one of them where I've been invited to bring some "finger food of (my) culture" and while it's not my own culture being represented, I think it will be appreciated and Terry writes in the preamble that it's her favorite recipe in the book so I'm pretty sure folks will love them! And then salads and stuff to other potlucks. So many good things to choose from!!!

I made a lot of Terry tester recipes for a good friend of mine who's an omnivore. He told me the other day he's going veg in 2013! I attribute most of this to Terry's awesome recipes from this book.

Because of this book I finally ventured into the Chinese market near my office (C Mart) to find tamarind paste. I found the concentrate! And so many mock meats! I'm sure there's lots more I could have bought, but I forgot to make a copy of the book's grocery list and I couldn't find it anywhere on Terry's website.

The website could be wrong, but I can't seem to find the ingredients on Lee Kum Kee's website. I assumed that because it's specifically called vegetarian that those are from non-animal sources but it might be worth dropping them an email. I haven't heard back from them, but I found another sauce called "Mushroom Vegetarian Sauce" (Healthy Boy Brand) that seems to be pretty much the same thing, so I got that one. I used the drunken noodle sauce (minus the Thai golden mountain sauce, I didn't have that one) from the pad kee mao recipe for a noodle stir-fry today, and it was pretty good!

We had the asparagus bisque last night. It's probably the least flavorful recipe we've had from the book, but still really good and simple.

I just ordered it. Argh! No room on the shelves for it, and I haven't cooked enough out of Wild Aout Greens yet to justify another new cookbook.
Oh well. I get brownie points for holding out this long, right? Plus, I used a gift certificate, so it totally doesn't count.

The adobo stew is really good, but next time, I'd probably go with the ground pepper instead of whole peppercorns. That part was kind of unpleasant.

I made the pastichio last night. Totally worth a 2 hour wait for dinner. Totally! The only thing I did differently was I sauteed the eggplant right after the mushrooms. I feel like there wouldn't have been very much filling if the eggplant was really optional. Sauteeing the eggplant saved an extra step and a few dishes and it came out great. so so good.

I made the baked tofu recipe this weekend. I really like the sweet and salty balance of flavors, though I definitely need a thinner/less rich soy sauce for it. Or I would recommend thinning down your soy sauce unless you want it to be coated in a thick layer of black goo. I'm slicing it up to add to the Chinese noodle/takeout stir-fry recipe tonight. I'm adding mushrooms, bok choy, broccoli and green onions along with the tofu. And I get to break in my freshly seasoned wok!

I started the preserved lemons last night and I followed the recipe. The lemon juice was not sufficient to cover the lemons. It went, maybe halfway up the jar.
Should I buy more lemon juice or will they be ok since I'm rotating the jar every day?

I made the pumpkin and black bean posole and it was totally yum although I think the toppings are absolutely essential. The only topping I didn't do was cabbage because I didn't want to be stuck with this giant head of cabbage in my already-crammed fridge, and I couldn't find a ready-shred salad bag of it, but cabbage would be good in there, too. My only regret is that I couldn't find a bag of masa harina so I couldn't make fresh corn tortillas to roll up and dunk in it. Are Bob's Mills corn flour and masa harina the same thing? Because I almost bought a bag of BM's corn flour in sheer tortilla desparation but I was afraid it wouldn't work so dint.
I also made the semolina date squares and they were super good. Brought them to a potluck last night and came back with an empty plate! Yum. I'll probably make them again before the Christmas season is through!

I'm using the other method and they are sitting in the pantry. Maybe I should move them to the fridge.

Does anyone who tested have the flourless chocolate torte recipe on their computer? My friend wants to make it, but i can't scan the recipe because of the way it's laid out on two pages. it's not on amazon preview either!
