I like: Mediterranean Vegan Kitchen by Donna Klein Olive Trees and Honey by Gil Marks This blogger has a list of all her cookbooks and many of them are Middle Eastern and North African http://theveganmouse.blogspot.com/. If you click on the cookbook it links to amazon and you can look more closely. I usually get a cookbook from the library first and test drive it before I buy.

Super good! Interesting. I've seen that on the shelf but never knew if it was any good. There are no pictures so people don't like it for that reason, but the recipes in there are good. I mean they provide several different hummus recipes from different countries! It's awesome! And nearly everything is either vegan or easy to veganize (sub for butter, etc. ).

Super good! This is a great book, but to be clear, it's not vegan. Most of the recipes are vegan or can be modified, but there is an egg chapter. xo kittee

But with no pictures it's easy to forget about the eggs chapter unless you want inspiration for spicing your tofu scramble. I think it's about 20 pages out of the book.

I might have another look at it. I'm personally not really fussed about the lack of pictures or eggs, but I don't really buy books without looking at reviews first.

I have a lot of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cookbooks from my pre-vegan days and none are strictly vegan cookbooks other than Donna Klein's mentioned above. A lot contain vegetarian dishes that can be modified to be vegan.
I also have Olive Trees and Honey by Gil Marks but only made one thing from it that had way too much oil. But the recipes look enticing and I love the regional variations she gives. Again, no photos in this book and there are egg dishes.

I also like May Bsisu's Arab Table, but it's not as vegan friendly.

I've been scouring for anything with a significant section on Persian recipes, because I forking miss eating Persian food like I did at my friend's house every weekend as a child.

There's a Persian recipe in that book for kidney beans and green herbs cooked with dried limes that I like a lot.

Veglicious wrote: I thought I'd mention this blog http://www.tasteofbeirut.com/Not vegan at all but there are some great ideas. Yes, I discovered that blog a while ago and bookmarked a ton of the recipes in there but haven't come around to actually make any yet. But they do look so simple and appetizing (especially all of those grain and bean dishes). Also I have had Silk Road Cooking on my Amazon list forever, just waiting for it to become a little cheaper because I just cannot justify to spend so much on a book when I have so many already that I've hardly used any of them extensively. But I'd be really interested in any reviews of recipes from there!

The mushroom balls that go with the pomegranate soup from Classic Vegetarian Cooking from the Middle East & North Africa are excellent. I used almond flour instead of breadcrumbs, since that's what I had in the cupboard. I'd use more lentils for the soup part next time though.

I couldn't recommend those Linda Majzlik books, I'm afraid. I've got quite a few of them from back in the day when I used to need something fairly cheap to round up my Amazon order to get free shipping. Actually, the Middle East and the North African one are probably her best 2 but I still think they're a bit dull. She uses lots of fake cheeses in general. And if it matters to you, she uses weights not cups.
I have the Silk Road book mentioned above and I like it better even though I've not made much out of it. World Vegetarian by Madhur Jaffrey has a reasonable amount of recipes from this area.

I've just had one of those happy coincidences, having just read this thread and then went over to Etsy to trawl and I found this zine there -> Veganistan: Vegan food from the Middle East & Maghreb. Clearly a sign from the deities of food, so I've ordered a copy. I'm going to try my local library for the books mentioned in this thread, I am such a glutton for world cusine.
