"4 cups chickpeas, cooked and drained, or 2 (15-ounce) cans, drained and rinsed"
I want to cook my own chickpeas for this recipe, but I'm not sure if it calls for cooking 4 cups dried, or finishing with 4 cups cooked. Any ideas? I've never even made a curry, and I am very, very excited!!! :D

As written, it looks like you should cook 4 cups of dried chickpeas. But that seems like way too much (especially when you are comparing it to 2 cans). I would use 4 cups cooked.

I was kinda thinking the same, that makes sense. Thanks! Do you know how much dried chickpeas it would take to make 4 cups cooked?

Now that's a good question. I estimate 1 cup dried yields 2-3 cups cooked, but I would wait for someone else to chime in here.

I always go by the 1 cup dry to 3 cups cooked ratio, it will vary for different types of bean but generally for those of a similar size like black beans, chickpeas, cannellini, pinto etc it works out fine for me.

Yeah, I also usually use the 1:3 ratio when cooking chickpeas.
So, a little more than 1 cup dried chickpease should yield the right amount for this recipe. Althouh I would probably use more because I just love chickpeas.

Yeah, like others say, I'd guesstimate a cup and a half dried to equal four (perhaps generous) cups cooked (in pressure cooker) chickpeas. I like my chickpeas measured generously too and a cup and a half should definitely yield enough for your recipe. If you do wind up with more cooked chickpeas than you need, they freeze well and you can make hummus or throw them in a pasta, soup or quick dinner toss.
