So anyway, I tried it tonight and it was one of the most incredible things I have tried in a long time. I loved it. Thanks to all of you who said it was good! I've yet to try that one! Thanks for reminding me!

Made beanballs last night but they were really mushy. Did I over-mash them? Betting that's what happened but wanted to throw it out there for any other possibilities.

The tomato-roasted eggplant-chickpea stew is so good! I had it with pasta and homemade "parmesan", the best meal I've had in a long time. Can't wait to try it with the poppyseed polenta.

I usually just put a little extra gluten in my beanballs to firm them up.

I've noticed quite a lot of typos/errors in Veganomicon. I can deal with "scrap" instead of "scrape", but when ingredients are missing off the list, I'm not sure I can trust my wits to catch what's missing as I did today with the Almond-Quinoa Muffins (no baking soda listed-- thankfully it's mentioned in the instructions). Is there a list of corrections somewhere?

The bean balls are in the oven, I'm quite excited to try them. Only just now when I took them out to flip, when I tried to slide the slide under they just sort of more pushed into eah other. oops, now have slightly misshapen bean balls at one end so I had to settle for shoogling the tray to try and turn them. Still they smelt really good, so I'm looking forward to them.

I've only owned this book for a few weeks, but so far I've made...
tofu ricotta -which was delicious rolled up in slices of chargrilled eggplant with hazelnut & green olive paté, & also a big hit with cheese loving friends when I used it as the base for a roasted garlic dip chile-chocolate mole - served simply with steamed veg & brown rice, really delicious vanilla yogurt pound cake - the best vegan cake I've ever made! Very much like a madeira cake with the slight citrus tang, & very moist, yet light. I served it with cashew cream & fresh strawberries.
Tonight I'm making the roasted fennel salad & also the butternut pumpkin cold rolls. I look forward to trying so many more of these recipes - what a great book!
The artist/designer side of me wishes there were more glossy photos, but I love the design, typography & paper choice! Think the cover design could be more inspiring, & a fresher, more modern green than the pthalo green of the cover & endpapers.

I'd like to make the Mediterranean Tomato and Zucchini Fritters tonight, but I'm cooking for a walnut hater. What nut would best replace the walnuts?

Last night I made the Seitan Piccata with Green Beans and served it over smashed potatoes. Really delicious and fun to have something that you can plate all fancy.

Have you guys seen this blog? An Omnivore Cooks the VeganomiconEven omnis love this book! Also, it's one of the 5 essential Vegan/Vegetarian Cookbooks, but we knew that already! Actually I think it's cool that Isa and Terry wrote TWO from that list! That's almost half!

I made the quinoa and chickpea pilaf for the first time last night - so simple, as the recipe said, but it's the combination of ingredients that I would not have thought of, and in amounts I would not have used, that make it brilliant. It was fast, too. With a salad it was a complete meal for me, and a nice side for the omnis.
I think it might also be good with a tiny bit of finely grated orange zest.

It's a rainy day and I've got the Sweet Squash in Mole simmering on the stove. Somehow I never noticed this recipe before yesterday, but it looks delicious!

Made the Vietnamese style sandwich with the savory broth dip a couple of weeks ago, and man oh man it was SO tasty, big, and filling! Perfect for sunday dinner. I even used store-bought seitan, and it was still good.
