Love this book!
This may not be a comprehensive list, but just off the top of my head, things we've loved/liked a lot:
tacos! (make these all the time) handitos chinatown scramble country skillet southwestern griddle smokey cauliflower soup miso soup (super filling for a miso soup!) minestrone french onion soup (really good, but I had issues with the pastry cooking in the amount of time suggested) tuna noodle casserole spaghetti pie meatloaf incrediburgers (good, but time consuming) tater tot pie (droolworthy!)
I was pretty unsuccessful with the ribs, but we may have overcooked them. The donut bites are the only sweet thing I've made, and they were pretty awesome. I guess you can't really go wrong with sweet fried dough.

we revisited the gyros the other night and WOW so freakin' good. The tzatziki sauce is perfect (we used half EB mayo/half soygurt) and while the seitan seemed a little firm at first, a light sauteeing softened it up and made it delectable. We also used homemade naan-type bread for these and that really put it over the top (not authentic but holy yum!)

Oh those cinnacrunch muffins. Make some now. Send some to me. I baked a batch for someone else and need more. More I say!

I loved them so much. The seitan has to be my favorite ever. I made the tzaziki sauce with homemade cashew yoghurt and added avocado to the veggies. Have to make this again soon.

The very first thing I made from this book was the oatmeal pancakes & against my better judgement I followed the recipe which contained way too much bicarb of soda & they were really salty. Every time I flip through it, I just don't feel inspired to make anything, or else I find a better recipe in another book. I want to like it...

I'm not sure what the deal is at bn.com, but I can tell you about Amazon. They have some crazy formula (aka plan for world domination) that determines the price of the books. If a book is full price, don't buy it. It will come down in a matter of weeks, if not days. Thanks for asking!

Look through this thread for inspiration, and try something else. Maybe something savory? This book is in my top 5. I've never made anything from it that wasn't great.

Just made the cinnacrunch muffins, and they really are as good as everyone is saying. I subbed homemade soy yogurt for the sour cream, and that worked fine.

I made the potstickers and they were great! I used flavored baked tofu rather than seitan, though, as my husband is a seitan-hater.

Made mushroom barley stew last night, and it was great. I used store-bought tempeh bacon because I had a partial package in the fridge. It was smoky and hearty. Don't make it if you don't like mushrooms though. I just reheated it for lunch and it was even better.
Tomorrow I'm making seitan katsu. I've made it before, and my kids have been begging me to make it again. It's panko-breaded fried seitan with a dark tangy sauce. My kids didn't like the slaw that goes with it (I did) so we eat it with udon and steamed broccoli. I highly recommend it!

I made the coffeecake last week when I randomly had some tofutti sour cream leftover from another recipe. I added chocolate chips and subbed yogurt for applesauce...it was fantastic! Best vegan coffeecake I've made or had in a long time.

Mmmm. I haven't made the coffee cake in ages. I think I need to get on that! It's going to be a great snowy week for baking. :)

Efcliz wrote: bcakes wrote: I had my first failure from this book after many successful and delicious dinners. I made the southwestern wheat meat loaf, which smelled so delicious when assembling and baking, but did not cook in the middle. I followed the instructions for tenting foil over it when it looked really brown after the first 30 minutes of baking. By the end, it was well done and crispy outside, but wet and gooey in the middle.
I am thinking of making 2 to 4 mini-loaves next time instead of one big loaf. Any other thoughts on this recipe? I just checked back to the testing notes. I had no problems with the texture of this one at all, though I did use the foil. Someone else who tested it made it in muffin tins with success though. How long would you bake these in a muffin tin? I love wheatloafs, but I hate the long cook time and would love to make them as a quick dinner.

Chickaninis last night! It's a panini with chicken-y seitan. Same as no-cluck cutlets in vegan sandwiches save the day. My sammich had steamed spinach, tomato, onion and the yummy sauce from the recipe. I usually do roasted red pepper too, but I was out. It's one of our favorite sandwiches!
