I pre-ordered (not a prime customer) from Amazon and mine came today. I think I ordered it a few weeks ago, not too long ago. I'm excited that I have mine, but I feel bad for the people Amazon is pissing off! I just had a fight with them about something else, and they gave me a $20 promotional credit because I complained.

I ordered in April (prime), and got it last night.

Amazon just gave me a $10 promotional credit because I brought to their attention that others had received the book and not me (I preordered, too).

I am a sucker for the free shipping and I want to start making pies as soon as it arrives. Pie weights, if you want, but an alternative is given. Crust shields (but I usually use aluminum foil because before now I didn't make a a lot of pie). And other specialty pans as you see fit, springform, tart, and mini pans, etc. And since I don't make assumptions about what you have, a rolling pin. Even with just a regular old pie pan you could get started though. bekki wrote: Also, boychucker, I forgot to mention, I think a pastry cutter is the greatest thing ever and couldn't imagine pies or biscuits without it, so if you like gadgetry get one!
Erinnerung wrote: I used a pie pan, tart pan, springform pan, mini tart pans and mini springform pans during testing. You definitely don't need all these things straight away- you'll be fine with just a pie pan for now, then see how you go!
A kitchen scale could be handy if you don't have one, I tried to measure all of my fruit by weight for the fruit pies.
But you don't need anything gimmicky like pie weights, crust shields or those weird ceramic bird things that some people stick in the middle of pies (as much as I kind of want one). Thanks for the suggestions! I guess I am fairly well equipped for the time being.I might replace my pastry cutter because it's broken off the handle on one side-but might try to just replace with a wooden handle. I will just get a tart pan for now, though the mini springforms are so tempting. I already have one of those pie birds I bought when I was ordering decorating tips.

With all of this talk, I can't be patient anymore. I preordered mine at the start of August on B&N.com (before Isa put that msg about ordered through her Amazon link) and I haven't heard anything saying it is already available. They've changed the release date on their website from 25 Oct to just 'Oct', so I sent them an email. I want pie, I want pie, I want pie! Actually, I am so unprepared, I don't even own a pie dish. That will be remedied very soon however.

I didn't expect to be able to get it yet, but I was at Prairie Lights bookstore in Iowa City yesterday, and not only did I see it on the shelf, but all of their cookbooks are 20% off for October! It's so pretty, I'm taking breaks from my work just to leaf through it. I think the Figgy Apple Hand Pies are first on my list of things I'm going to make.

Now I feel like an asparagus for ordering late and getting early. And it seems like there's no rhyme or reason as to who got them when, unless it's maybe us East Coasters got them first. That's the only trend I see on these last two pages, NC, FL, VA, NY have theirs, and CA and WA folks don't. Maybe it hit our warehouses first?

The tracking for mine says it arrived in Knoxville this afternoon, so hopefully it will be delivered tomorrow (I never know, though, as our mail person seems a little...confused most of the time). For those fighting with Amazon, I preordered it on September 23rd.

That sucks that you guys who ordered it long ago didn't get it yet. The same thing happened to me with Appetite For Reduction! I had it on pre-order and then you all were talking about getting it in bookstores and whatnot, so I cancelled my preorder and went out to buy it at Barnes and Noble.
So when this one came out I waited for others to get it first. I placed the order on Tuesday and got it the next day even though I had selected two day shipping (free because I have prime).

Oh, I don't have time to make pie anyways so really it's not important that it's delayed. I'm just excited!

Mine is probably high above the Pacific somewhere! It's quite the adventure for such a young book.

So when a recipe specifies 3 lbs of apples, is that before or after peeling and coring them? I bought a package of 4 pounds thinking I wouldn't need it all, but then that question crossed my brain.

And hopefully the pecan pie again, this time with non-stale nuts! That cheesecake is the best thing in the entire world. No shiitake.

Barnes & Noble replied to me to say that they can confirm that the book is available now, but that unfortunately they won't be shipping mine until the 25th. What the fork? Why the hell not?
