Um, I really really really want it now. I told myself I wasn't going to get it because I never make pie and it costs money and the ingredients probably cost money too, but I don't know if I care. Maybe I'll sell two lesser cookbooks on amazon so I can afford this one? That's dumb. I'm doing it.

It all looks so good! I am paralyzed with indecision. The Manhattan Mud Pie is a strong contender for first, though - anybody have a vegan chocolate liqueur they'd recommend?

Mine claims it's going to be here Friday with 2 day Prime shipping. But it hasn't shipped yet...

I know this might not be the right place to ask, but are there any tools/supplies (other than pie pans) I might need to order along with the book? I am a sucker for the free shipping and I want to start making pies as soon as it arrives.

Pie weights, if you want, but an alternative is given. Crust shields (but I usually use aluminum foil because before now I didn't make a a lot of pie). And other specialty pans as you see fit, springform, tart, and mini pans, etc. And since I don't make assumptions about what you have, a rolling pin. Even with just a regular old pie pan you could get started though.

Lovely photographs, a wealth of great choices and for someone who years ago said 'never
again' after creating an 'iffy' cracked shell, new found enthusiasm!

I used a pie pan, tart pan, springform pan, mini tart pans and mini springform pans during testing. You definitely don't need all these things straight away- you'll be fine with just a pie pan for now, then see how you go!

A kitchen scale could be handy if you don't have one, I tried to measure all of my fruit by weight for the fruit pies.

But you don't need anything gimmicky like pie weights, crust shields or those weird ceramic bird things that some people stick in the middle of pies (as much as I kind of want one).

I have had mine preordered and I just got an email saying it won't be here until the 26th! Super shitty that amazon filled orders placed after mine even though I paid for it a few weeks ago.

Me too! After they e-mail and told me it would be early. I won't be preordering again.

They told me they haven't shipped any, did anyone here get theirs from amazon? I am going to see if I can find it locally.

They are liars because mine shipped from Amazon yesterday. According to tracking info it's on a truck in Charlotte right now.

I got mine from amazon. My pre-order trick is I don't order until close to release dates and there are rumors that it's ready if I really want something and it seems to work. I've seen so many people who pre-order early get theirs late. I wonder if amazon ships maybe Prime orders first? Which isn't fair, but may explain it.

Definitely call, I've always had great customer service experiences with amazon.

Also, boychucker, I forgot to mention, I think a pastry cutter is the greatest thing ever and couldn't imagine pies or biscuits without it, so if you like gadgetry get one! Alton Brown also uses an awesome dino spray bottle to put the water into his crusts so the water gets distributed evenly. I really want to do this but don't know how to go about getting a food safe spray bottle. Any suggestions?

Also, I really want to master the art of the food processor crust.

I got mine yesterday. I ordered it back in June, though. I also found out that Carl doesn't really care for pie. I think that's the kind of thing you tell someone before you trick them into marrying you!

I don't usually pre-order, so I don't have a lot of experience with it. I pre-ordered this one way back when, and got it yesterday. I've also always had great experiences with their customer service, so I'm interested to see what they say about this.

They don't have any answers, the customer service people only have info that the book wasn't released yet. They are going to refund my shipping, so I will get free one day shipping, but I won't get it earlier. I am going to call local stores today and see if I can find it.

It hasn't been released in Canada yet, according to what I can find out.

I ordered on Tuesday and got this today:

"We're writing about the order you placed on October 11 2011. Unfortunately, the release date for the item(s) listed below has changed, and we need to provide you with a new delivery estimate based on the new release date:

Isa Chandra Moskowitz, Terry Hope Romero "Vegan Pie in the Sky: 75 Out-of-This-World Recipes for Pies, Tarts, Cobblers, and More"
Estimated arrival date: October 31 2011 - November 04 2011"

Jerks. It IS released, liars. Why don't they say "Wow, we got a ton of orders, sorry, we're busy shipping out vegan pie books but will get you your precious as soon as we can!"

I just got the same email (and came running here to complain). I know darn well the book is out already.

I think I'm going to cancel my order and buy the book at an actual store. I was planning to make a pie for an upcoming Halloween party and I'm not willing to wait until November 4 for my copy.
