Hi there! I was going to order Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World and saw a couple of reviews on Amazon that said some of the ingredients were somewhat hard to find and/or procure. I'm wondering what these ingredients are! I would love to have the book but don't want to spend the money if I can't find and get *every single ingredient at Whole Foods* (it's my only option here in Birmingham, Alabama). I don't want to have to order ingredients over the internet. You must forgive my inept searching abilities - I'm sure this has been addressed before, but I couldn't find it.
Hers, Jagadeesh

I've never had any problems finding ingredients for VCTOTW at my local WF. You should definitely get it. My copy is in like 5 pieces and covered in flour and goo... it's a classic.

I have lived in very non-veg friendly areas and have no issue (in normal grocery stores) finding 95% of the ingredients for this cookbook. There may be a few things, like lychees, but the ingredients are really very basic.

Coolio! Thanks, ya'll. So no "weird" flours or egg replacer or such? Yeah, lychee is hard to find fresh, even in Atlanta.

No, it really sticks to mostly normal ingredients. You will be able to make most of the cupcakes with stuff from totally normal grocery store, and if you have access to Whole Foods you'll REALLY be fine.

There's nothing like Whole Foods here and I still don't have trouble with making anything from this book. The only consistent issue for me is soy yoghurt, but it's easy enough to whip up a substitute.

Thank you all for your input! The book is on its way and I can't wait to make the green tea cupcakes!

You're gonna love it! Like the others have said, you can get almost any ingredient in it at a local supermarket, and most definitely at whole foods. Make the cookies and cream cupcakes. : )

Hmmm... the carrot cake ones will have to come after the green tea ones!

Tiramisu!!! Those are seriously the best ever. (the carrot cake ones are the only ones that didn't work for me. mine were weird and oily. I have made dozens of the other recipes and they have all been winners. but make the tiramisu ones).

The tiramisu are my favorite... And the beer cupcakes. And the red velvet. And all the other ones.
I cooked most from VCTOTW when I lived somewhere with basically no access to specialty items. (We had a Price Chopper and a pretty limited Trader Joe's.). I think there was one recipe I wanted to make that had agar, which I couldn't find, and other than that I was fine.

Which one? Vegan with a Vengeance is my very favorite. That and Vegan Brunch.

Hell, I just ordered another one, too! So, in total, I've had Veganomicon for about four years, now I've ordered Cupcakes, Vegan with a Vengeance, and just got finished ordering Appetite for Destruction about two minutes ago. The recipes sound awesome - it was the Southern boy in me that wanted those Greens and Peas (hottie something?). Some of the reviews were a bit harsh, but I've been cooking long enough (my whole life) to know a few tricks that those people didn't seem to know. I'm itching to get these books! The brunch one doesn't call to me at all because I don't brunch or do brunch food. I still have to add Pies and Cookies to my library! Next payday!!!!!

But...but...the brunch one has crab cakes! And sausages! And quiche! And Chelsea Waffles! Oh man, so good.

meh...
If I want crabs and sausage there's a corner I can visit in Birmingham and get them for less than the book (the crabs are even free with sausage "purchase"...)
