Looking for suggestions. I have a bunch of vegetarian cookbooks from years ago that I have no interest in veganizing (too lazy for that) and I need to reclaim the shelf space. I don't know of a good place to get rid of them. In previous years I would have left them with a free sign at the local university, but that isn't really an option anymore since its a big hassle to get on campus. I hate to throw them away and would love to get them into hands that might use them. Thoughts?

Charity shop? I have a couple unused vegetarian cookbooks that my MIL got at Goodwill or Value Village.

Brilliant! Thanks Moon!

Your post reminded me that the no-kill animal shelter I adopted my kitty Luna from runs a thrift store to raise money. I'm going to call them tomorrow to see if they take books. If not I'll look for a few more suggestions. Anybody else have ideas?

Used book stores are awesome, too.

Freecycle is what I do for other stuff

I have donated to public libraries in the past. And I have always thought I would donate my novels to the closest backpackers hostel for their lending library - not sure it would work for cookbooks, though.

Another option is the closest hospital. I like to give them my magazines but sometimes they also take books.

You could see if there's a Little Free Library anywhere near you and drop them off there.

Have you thought of offering to swap them at the PPK's "Cookbook Swap" thread? I just bumped it for you.

One woman's trash is another's treasure and all that. You might net a book you would like that way.
