I just stumbled across Vegan Family Meals by Ann Gentry (of RFD fame) on Amazon - they think they know me so well!
Anyone know anything about this one? I am really liking the page previews I see. It seems to mesh well with how we eat - I love meal salads, and it seems to have some of the RFD tastiness without, I hope, the complicated steps and ingredients. I like the layout, with the ingredients split into groups.
On the other hand, it does seem like everything has one or more subrecipes. A lot of this stuff I have other recipes for, but I do like the RFD cookbook. Any testers out there?

RFD is one of my favorite cookbooks -- I make the peanut-sesame dressing all the time, in particular. So I did the Amazon look inside thing and decided to make the Adzuki Bean Soup from this new book. It was really delicious and simple. I'm definitely getting this one. I just really like the way she puts flavors together, I think.

From what I've seen on the amazon preview, it looks great (though the breakfast chapter looks pretty boring, smoothies and granola, yawn!). If I can find it in a bookstore and make some money soon, I might get it. I like the RFD book.

After flipping through this in the bookstore, I bought it for my mum. She already has AFR and the Rebar cookbook (and she loves both of those), but she wanted a new veg cookbook. She is omni but trying to lose weight, and loves all of the salad and soup recipes in it. I had made the borscht with the tofu dill sour cream from the amazon preview, and I loved it (not that borscht is all that unique, but it was a good, solid, healthy recipe).
It's a beautiful, hardcover book, which she appreciates. I'm not sure how much use I'd get out of it, but it seems perfect for her, and clearly Ann Gentry knows her shiitake. The recipes don't seem slightly adapted or recycled, which I'm seeing in a lot of newer books. I love the RFD book, but it's nice that this one seems to be a more legit and tested "family" cookbook. She'll be cooking something for me from it this week, so we'll see! It has a lot of great info for new vegans or just the vegan-curious.

I just bought this on a whim. A lot of things look good. The lasagna rolls in particular look good.

I got this at Border's going-out-of-business sale. It's a really nice book, and there are tons of recipes I want to try from it, but I haven't had a chance to try anything yet. I plan on doing the greens trio as a side dish this weekend though, it uses kale, collards, and swiss chard.

I made a recipe out of this cookbook today -- the Kung Pao Tofu and Vegetables, with tempeh substituting for tofu (It's occasionally served as a special at the RFD restaurants, and they make it with tempeh rather than tofu there). It was excellent and I'm really pleased to be able to make it at home now.

Though I own and love both of Ann Gentry's books, this is the one I use most often, I think. I really appreciate the overall quality of production and pleasing aesthetics of the book itself. More importantly, the obviously well tested recipes look and taste great. They are healthy, too! Lately, with the dog days of summer upon us, we have been on a Ann's Morning Power Smoothie kick. It is a great way to begin the day.
