I just got back from the UK, and I was lucky enough to see a preview copy of the Ms Cupcake: The Naughtiest Vegan Cakes in Town By Mellissa Morgan, and it's worth going off your cook book diet for. It's hardback (thank you publisher) with pictures of all the recipes and you won't be able to decide which to try first - a nice mix of UK and North American treats - Victoria Sponge, Apple Fritters, plus her famous cupcakes!
It is going to be sold by the major UK grocery stores but may not be everywhere, so it would be worth asking if your store will carry it.

I follow Ms Cupcake on Facebook and didn't even realise she'd written a book. I'll look out for it and hope she's included her Ferrero Roche cupcake recipe!

Unfortunately, the Ferrero Roche recipe isn't in it. I got a copy at Northern Vegan Festival and flipped through it. Also no red velvet cookies, but the red velvet cupcakes are there. Most of the cupcake recipes are pretty basic (they're fancied up with toppings), but it also has muffins, cakes, cookies, bars, and some deep fried type stuff. I'm excited to bake something from it. It is a really gorgeous book.

So far I've made the Jaffa Cakes, which were super amazing and ridiculously easy, and the Chocolate Chip Cookies which were up there with some of the best I've ever had, proper bakery style chewy cookies. I have a review copy hence the baking from it before it's out yet and I'm giving away a copy on my blog, open to anyone, closes May 3rd.

I didn't get a chance to bake anything, of course, but the cookbook is absolutely GORGEOUS and the pastries I tried at the bakery were delish. I would recommend the cookbook on the photos and style alone.

pre-ordered from Book Depository because it's the only way I can get this book. Amazon.co.uk would charge a bazillion dollars in shipping.

I wrote to Book Depository and asked them about it, and they said: "I am sorry to report that it appears that this title has been market restricted by the publisher, and we cannot therefore make it available to customers in the US."
I can't understand why they would do that and miss out on those sales, but apparently they have. :(

I ordered mine from amazon.co.uk and they aren't restricting US shipping. With shipping, I paid $28.54 USD. A little steep, but I REALLY wanted this book so I treated myself.

I can't understand why they would do that and miss out on those sales, but apparently they have. :( There's probably just a US version coming or something. British/Australian baking can be a bit different and might confuse some Americans or just make them not want to buy it. It works both ways, too- I order most of my cookbooks online, but I have a few that I've bought here that are 'translations' for the British/Australian market (VWAV is one of them!).

I'm curious about these British/Australian versions of books, as the Brits use a smaller standard tablespoon then we do in Aus. Which is also the same for NZ, they were or still are using a standard tablespoon that's smaller than the Aussie counterpart? I think they use a 15ml like the British? I already own some American measuring cups and spoons, maybe it's time to add some British ones to the kitchen. The new face of multicultural cooking - no longer a wok or a tagine, but measuring spoons. :)

Melissa (Ms Cupcake) is Canadian, so the measures are presented both ways iirc. She also has a handy guide to subs for American/British ingredients and tells people what brands are vegan-friendly in NA and the UK.
