I am buying this book just for the pimento cheese. I've been craving it lately but wasn't sure I would be able to veganize it on my own. Super excited!
Also, I almost ignored this book because I thought it was going to be cocktail recipes.

My book came in the mail yesterday. Can't wait till thanksgiving is over and I'm back in my own kitchen so I can try some stuff out. The fried cucumbers are so becoming fried pickles asap.

Woo, I won a signed copy from Bianca! Now I can do more than just laugh about wangs.

I made the cheesy tofu scramble for dinner last night, and it's now my go-to scramble recipe. It was so delicious and so easy! I can't wait to make more from this book.
Question about grits - Even though I'm Southern, my mom's a grits-hating Yankee, so I never tried them (as far as I can recall) until a couple weeks ago when I was in DC. I'm in the UK now, so I don't have access to anything specifically called grits. A lot of places on the internet want to tell me grits = polenta (i.e., coarsely ground corn meal). So, do I need to get something that is specifically called grits (which you can pretty much only get in the US), or can I use polenta?

They're a bit different, but close enough that the recipe will come out fine.

In Canada they do the same thing, have this ground polenta and they call it grits, but my southern friends say this is blasphemy.

My Southern father says it's ok to use polenta to make grits.

This is totally not a cookbook I need. I read JohnP's review on Amazon though and he mentioned cream of mushroom soup. Plus anything JohnP praises has got to be good. So I ordered it.

I've never seen even instant grits at shops here. But I've asked 2 people to bring me grits, so hopefully I'll get some.
Also, I made the Memphis BBQ Sauce two nights in a row to eat with Vegan Diner Smoky Curls. It's super easy and really delicious.

has anyone made the "brown-sugar-baked tofu ham with redeye gravy" on page 33? i'm thinking of trying this out for xmas eve dinner with my hubby.
also we don't drink coffee. for the "1 cup of strong black coffee" should i just buy some bulk instant coffee granules that i could stir into water or should we just go to the corner gas station and just buy a cup of coffee???
i'm also not really familiar with redeye gravy, is it a thin gravy or does it thicken up a bit as it cooks for 5 minutes??

I would go to the gas station and buy a cup of coffee, but do it in the morning so it's fresh.
