WHAT. I don't think I would've noticed if I wasn't looking for it, but now it's there forever.

Mine came yesterday and I'm pretty excited and slightly intimidated. I have very little experience in international cuisine and so I have no clue where to start. Plus I'm in the same boat as a previous poster with a partner who is hesitant about most world cuisines.

It has shipped! I should have it in Monday's post.

I forgot to pre-order...but called the local Barns and Noble and they have it! Hooray! they will hold it for me so I can start cooking out of it this weekend. Awesome.

I made my first recipe -- the pumpkin churros. The flavor was good, but I couldn't get them to cook in the middle no matter how small I made them. My husband and I ate them anyway because even undercooked fried dough is worth eating.

I looked through mine last night and it is gorgeous. It's been a long time since I've gotten such a big, comprehensive cookbook - I feel overwhelmed!

Do folks have suggestions for where to order the speciality ingredients and spices used in this book? I could probably round them up if I went to enough stores here, but I'd rather do some one stop shopping if possible.

mexgrocer.com is good for latin stuff, although your local supermercado will have amazing produce prices and good stuff like frozen empanada dough. I order spices from Penzey's but they're not the cheapest, for sure. Amazon is good for things like giant cans of gluten and molecular gastronomy ingredients (carageenan, agar agar agar agar, guar gum, etc.) but I don't think this book uses very much of that..

For Asian stuff I usually just go to HMart or Mitsuwa once in a while, which are great. I haven't found a good online place for Asian ingredients (somewhat OT: since an Amsterdam demo was mentioned above, though, those people in the Netherlands should totally check out Tampopo on Haarlemmerdijk, and it's next door to de Natuurwinkel too!) My old 'hood and packed with half a dozen good ethnic groceries).

She references this place in the book. I looked there before I ventured out to the Indian grocery, and it looks like they have a pretty major selection.

I can neither confirm nor deny that a major selling point in selecting our old apartment was its proximity to the Natuurwinkel.

I made the smokey seitan version of the sauerkraut soup. It's awesome, as expected. The dill sour cream is great. In fact, I may just use that recipe minus the dill instead of buying tofutti in the future.

The rye muffins are great with that soup.

It's okay if I go ahead and buy these even though I just got 5 other cookbooks for my birthday a couple months ago, right? I mean, I do have SOME room on my cookbook shelf still.

I wish Amazon had a "look inside" feature for this book. Reviews are really helpful, of course, but I like to see a bit of a book before buying.

If your cookbook shelf is still in the singular, it's fine.

If you have a Barnes & Noble they probably have it on the shelf. I saw it there in a little town in Missouri.

I bet there will be one soon, if not on Amazon then on Barnes & Noble's website or on Google Books. It has only just come out!
