Hi!!

Can anyone recommend a cookbook with vegan, primarily gluten-free recipes that are super easy and good for beginners?

I want to get my sister a good cookbook for Christmas because she has absolutely no experience in the kitchen and needs to learn how to feed herself! She's exclusively vegan and gluten-free. I was interested in getting Veganomicon for her, since it has such amazing reviews. However, I could not find out approx. what % of the recipes are gluten free, so I don't know how appropriate it is.

Thanks for you recommendations and input!!

I'm not sure exactly the % of recipes that are gluten free but Appetite for Reduction has tons of really great recipes that are gluten free or can easily be made gluten free. Plus the recipes are easy and probably suitable for a beginner cook. Veganomicon is awesome, but definitely has more elaborate recipes and relies a bit more heavily on gluten (but there's so many recipes in it, she could easily find or adapt tons to be gluten-free).

I admit, I was not a huge fan of this cookbook, but others are, and it is in this discussion forum somewhere, but there is something like '30 minute vegan europe' cookbook. i'm pretty sure all the recipes inside are GF. you might could peek in amazon.com and see how much you can see.

also, julie of vegan diner, (google to find her blog) is going GF and has been posting some re-makes of her recipes in GF form.

you also might want to check this lady out..... i have her vegan baking book, i don't think it's GF but i can check later to see if she has GF sub sugggestions....

I second this book. It's beautiful, and also it's multipurpose... There are breakfast recipes, baked goods, dinner recipes, desserts... I think it's the only all vegan and all GF book out there ( besides those books that are dedicated just to vegan gf baking). She's writing another one now too!

I third (fourth) Great Gluten Free Vegan Eats.

The other books are all good, but if she's new to cooking, it's probably a recipe for disaster to get her something where she has to start subbing things.

Thanks so much for all the great advice. I will definitely be getting Great Gluten Free Vegan Eats and probably Appetite for Reduction as well!
