(sigh)
naturally the ONE TIME I cancel a pre-order from work, banking that it will take ages for it to come and amazon will be better/faster, work got this in two weeks early.

I have to say it is a gorgeous book. the 12 month thing is done like

"detox"
"slimming"
"energy"

etc.

flipping through it, I can not wait for it to come in. there's not a lot of special "fancy" add ins. I did one recipe, Peanut Butter Swirl, (with white chocolate PB) and it was gooooooooooooooooood.

Are there tons of recipes for smoothies that contain either bananas or avocados! I detest both, and so many smoothies call for one or both. I just wouldn't be able to justify the purchase of this book if I couldn't make most of the recipes.

there are, but you could most likely swap. banana is used as a thickener, but i've read you can use mango etc, it would just change the taste

Thanks, and you're spot on about the mango. That's something I frequently use as a sub. Another one is watermelon; it makes smoothies super frothy, but again it does change the taste.

I am still on the fence with this book. I'm hoping I can find it in a bookstore and take a peek-through when it's released.

Okay -

yes almost every recipe has banana. but Kathy pretty much says use the smoothie recipies as a base.

No it is not a diet book. like month one "Detox" is a good chunk of green smoothies, vitamin c stuff, etc, basically the combination of the right stuff to have a healthy non grassy tasting smoothie. lol. don't let the chapter titles turn you off. like there is a huge section of dessert based ones (ie: carrot cake, etc).

Kathy talks about her book here, so you can see the titles and stuff in the chapters :)

That DOES look colorful and intriguing. I could use some creativity in my smoothies.

I really can't wait until my copy comes in so i can really play with the recipes some more. these are some more that I've tried:

Cinnamon Fudge (this was really good. It didn't taste like it right out of the blender, but i'm taking smoothies to work now for a snack, so by the time i defrosted it, it tasted like a very rich chocolate cinnamon ice cream).

Strawberry Lemon Swirl : ditto (but tastes good out of the blender)

Raspberry Lemonade (my favourite, makes you wish raspberries were cheaper!)

she calls for soy milk/soy yoghurt for most of these, but i just use almond milk, and they are FINE.

for those who are anti-banana: most of the recipes call for any time 1/2 to 2 bananas. the ones with two bananas (like the Peanut Butter Swirl one, which I made with white chocolate peanut butter, SO freaking good), you can aste more of the banana). but recipes that call for like 1/2 or 1 (like the Raspberry Lemonade one), you can't taste it at all - it's mostly used as the thickener (most of my bananas are frozen, and she does specify the difference between frozen/fresh, but i feel the frozen just makes it thicker, and you can bypass the ice step).

this is going to get so much play in my kitchen.
[the only lament is, i hate I live in a part of Canada, where i can't go berry picking. I want blueberries!]

I am very excited for this book! I eat smoothies everyday, but usually just the same berries/kale/banana combo. I was looking for a way to expand my smoothie diet, and this is perfect.

annabazoo - it's that for sure! :)

i just find it hilarious that my book finally comes - and my high speed blender dies. (i don't think it is too big of an issue, it just takes longer + now i really have to soak things like dates, oats, nuts etc).

This thread made me order this book. I blame you all!

Seriously I'm excited - I got a high speed blender for an anniversary present and promised we'd be drinking lots of smoothies. Now I can fulfill that promise.

okay:
Bananas for Almonds and Greens: new favourite smoothie in the morning (i add 1 scoop of vanilla almond vega, but i think i want to get plain to let the flavours of this smoothie SHINE).

Walnut Ginger Cookie: def. add more ginger - but it's nice and filling.

I love how the recipes make one huge serving (or 2 small) and that the nutritional info is for the whole recipe.

#291 Magnesium Magic - The Vitamix made the pumpkin seeds really creamy. Used kale instead of spinach and it was really yummy. Hoping one a day will boost my mood for working night shift the next three nights....

I just ordered this, I love smoothies but I get bored of my usual banana, strawberry, spinach concoction!

do you need a high speed/vita-mix for the recipes or is any blender going to work?

She has 2 pages worth of tips for using a 'budget blender'.

This was my big fear but I got the book and so far so good! My smoothies are way better now that I learned to start on low, move up to high and blend for a long time.

i can say when my ninja died (stupid thing), I thought i was hooped, especially regarding green smoothies. I bought a Black and Decker 12 speed for the July 1st sale, and I was like, okay let's go back to "slow" blenders. but it's actually really nice. it's not as "thick and creamy" as it was with the high speed blenders, but it does get the job done with all of themse smoothies (i just soak my nuts and raisins/dates and things longer).

drinking C smoothie (don't have the number right now) but it's with the one kiwis, orange, avocado, etc, and it's really good. it's interesting, kiwi is very pronuced in smoothies LOL
