So the talk-me-out-of-buying-a-cookbook-thread has a handful of us reveling in our cookbook addiction. Lavawitch kicked us out of the thread... So here is a chance to revel!

The Borders closing has been rough for my wallet since it is so easy to justify impulse buying some books I have held off on so far. Even if they are just close to Amazon prices it is difficult to not have it in my hands immediately. So.... tonight I finally picked up Joy of Vegan Baking.

My wife gave me the slightly placating look and asked if I "really needed another cookbook when many of my current ones are unused or barely used."

Hopefully some on here can understand that the only response to that question is, "But of course I need it. There is a hole in my collection that is shaped exactly like this particular cookbook." She was though able to get me to at least hold off on and check out reviews for the 1000 Vegan Recipes, Vegan Table, and some vegan baked goods book from a bakery called Divvies.

I hadn't even made it to the various ethnic sections where I saw what looked like some interesting Indian and Middle Eastern books!

So anyone else want to revel with me?

I went to Borders today and got Peas and Thank You and The Complete Guide to Vegan Food Substitutions. They still had a couple of other vegan cookbooks that I don't own yet, but I talked myself out of them.

I almost bought that Peas and Thank You book but it looked like it was more gardening than recipes so I held off. How is the Vegan Food Substitutions? I wondered if it would be more useful to a new vegan rather than someone old like me.

But it said vegan in the title and therefore seemed a little like it might need to be in the collection...

I started looking through Peas and Thank You first. I'm not that far into it and haven't noticed any gardening stuff. I like her writing style.

Peas and Thank You is awesome and so is the author. And her blog.

And btw, I have a problem with buying cookbooks. I just recently added two more to my collection of one hundred and <clears throat> vegan cookbooks.

My Borders had just 2 vegan cookbooks left, and they were both raw. Not my thing.

I bought Vegan Bake Sale at my Borders. So far I have made the lemon poppy loaf, which was very good. Especially with a little leftover vegan cream cheez icing. mmmmmmmmmm

I should also add that I recently bought 2 new cookbooks. Despite trying not to but cookbooks.

I bought Hearty Vegan Meals for Monster Appetites and Nonna's Italian Kitchen a few days ago. Isn't the feeling you get when you flip through a new cookbook for the first time just the best? There's no such thing as too many cookbooks!

I'm trying to convince Brian that we need to go to Borders (the nearest one is 70 miles away) so I can buy cookbooks.

We're driving to borders (45 minute drive) this weekend to look for cookbooks. Gonna be real pissed if they don't have anything vegan.

I got VWAV at my borders. I'd been wanting it for a long time, so I didn't feel too bad. Do you guys have other book addictions? I mention it because I'm also feeding an addiction to knitting books, which I also bought at borders.

At my local Borders they had all the Isa books as of yesterday. Being the good PPK guy I am I turned them all face out.

As for the knitting addiction, that would be my wife. She is the one who is raiding the knitting section. Anymore cookbooks and craft books are the only things we buy physical copies of - all fiction we tend to get on the Kindle.

I am stalking Amazon.co.uk to get my hands on World Vegan Kitchen. I mean, I'm pressing refresh every 10 seconds.

That was one of the ones that broke me.

chatter and I usually rearrange the displays of vegan cookbooks at our Barnes and Noble. One time they had an author's (who is not popular around here) book on the table so we switched it out for another cookbook.

I bought Vegan Food Subs a few months ago when the borders near me went out of business. I personally like it a lot. I usually rely on recipes for vegan baking. This book breaks down why different ingredients work in different recipes. which gives more freedom to wing it without experiencing recipe failures. It also has recipes for making things like "sort yogurt" for baking and sweetened condensed milk, which make it easy to veganize recipes by just swapping out one ingredient. You might want to take a look before you buy to see if you'll find it useful. Be warned that it's an adorable book, so you might be tempted to pick it up for that reason alone.

Also, since this is a thread for reveling in cookbook addiction, the new books I just ordered are Bryanna Grogan's new book, Hearty Vegan Meals and Classic Vegatarian Cooking from the Middle East and North Africa. I am going to move my photo albums to a different bookshelf this weekend to make room for my new books. Yay.

FINE, thread, I will stop at Borders after work. What is the cookbook discount up to now- 50%? I hope mine still has Vegan Family Meals. That's not one I want to pay full price for (it's complicated-looking!), but it's sooo pretty.

People probably shouldn't be visiting this thread if they are trying not to buy cookbooks. *cough*lavawich*cough*

As much as I tried, Lavawitch, I feel more comfortable in this thread. I think I must accept the fact that I am in the perpetual quest for the perfect vegan cookbook, and a secret desire to own every one ever published.
