Yasou: A Magical Fusion of Greek & Middle Eastern Vegan Cuisine - Miriam Sorrell

http://mouthwateringvegan.com/2016/01/07/yasou-cookbook-now-available-for-preorder/

"From award-winning chef Miriam Sorrell, author of 'Mouthwatering Vegan', comes 'YASOU', a magical fusion of Greek and Middle Eastern vegan cuisine. This book connects the author with her own rich roots, and takes plant-based cooking to a new level, bringing the exotic flavours of the Middle East & Southern Mediterranean within easy reach of the home cook, and showing once again the innovative genius of Sorrell as she redesigns vegan cuisine. Taramasalata, Haloumi, Lime Infused Feta, Shaskshuka with genius plant- based Eggs, Baked Fasolia Pie, Middle Eastern Stuffed Cabbage Rolls, Briam-Imam Bayildi, Spanakopita Tart, Crispy Fried Calamari, Aubergine Maqluba, Coffee Creme Caramel, Kalo Prama, and Galaktoboureko, are some of the delights to be found within - all entirely plant-based ! Lavish full page photos accompany each recipe, each one more appetizing than the last, and marking this hotly anticipated book as a historical moment in vegan gastronomy."

Looks tasty!

I just saw this on Amazon last night and thought of mentioning it in the Upcoming Cookbooks 2016 thread. It won't be out until the end of April, but it looks really good!

That sounds wonderful but I really didn't like her first one much so I'll be waiting to see it in the flesh before buying.

Does anyone know if she uses/used recipe testers? Was a bit annoyed with her last book in the sense that none of the cheese recipes worked (due to 'revised' recipe not reaching the publisher in time)

This is out now. I had pre-ordered, but amazon.ca seems to be already out of stock, so not sure when to expect the book. Looking forward to reading comments from any users.

Very intrigued by the "genius plant-based eggs".

This finally arrived on my doorstep yesterday. It’s a very pretty book with full-page photos for just about all the recipes. I think there are fewer than in her last book, haven’t counted, just going by thickness.

There’s a few things in here that vegan cookbook aficionados see over and over again (dips, etc.), but many of the recipes look quite inventive. Also, a quick glance shows some recipes call for vegan cheese/sausage, but then she provides some recipes for those things as well. Am eager to try out the Iranian no beef/eggplant stew and the kalo prama dessert…

Dips, Salads, Soups & Sides
Beautiful baba ganoush
Muhammara
Vegan taramasalata
Beetroot and yogurt dip
Rich spicy bean dip
Ful medames & sun dried tomato dip
Spicy hummus
Fig feast salad with ouzo, orange & lime dressing
Mouthwatering middle eastern-style salad
Middle eastern tahini salad
My fabulous tabbouleh
Pasta salad me feta
Tagine superfood salad
Avgolemono (“egg” and lemon soup)
Sour bulgur trahana
Trahana soup
Fiery falafel
Lemon drowned roasted potatoes
Roast potatoes smothered in hot sun dried tomato sauce
Scorched, spiced baby tomatoes & green peppers
Tender baby zucchini smeared in rose harissa, lime & tomato
Sun dried tomatoes
Thick vegan Greek yogurt
Lime-infused feta cheese
Vegan haloumi
Vegan tzaziki
Simple vegan grated cheese
Pastourma (Pastirma) with ouzo
Loukaniko Greek sausage

Mains
Chilli and orange zest filletti (filletti appear to be similar to soy curls, or faux chicken strips)
Baked fasolia pie with feta & black olives
Epic sweet potato kibbeh
My legendary “no lamb”middle eastern-style bake
My Iranian “no beef” aubergine stew (Koresh bademjan)
Vegan shakshuka
Vegan fried eggs — these look quite realistic, I must say, right down to the fried browned edging around the white of the egg….unfortunately, looks like like part of the instructions are missing?!
My beautiful baked fattoush
My middle easter Turkish-style stuffed cabbage rolls
“Moroccan magic” tagine
“Moroccan magic” spicy couscous
Lemon potato, aubergine & tomato stew with cinnamon
Exotic orange, aubergine & okra stew
Sensual runner bean & mushroom stew
Tomato dolmasi
Zucchini & lentil moussaka
Briam-Imam bayildi
Middle eastern-style mixed peppers
Stuffed romano peppers
Spanking spanakopita
Spanakopita tart
Aubergine feast
Crispy golden cheezy zucchini fritters
Kibbeh burgers in hot pita with a garlic & mint yogurt dressing
“Chicken” souvlaki kebabs
Mouthwatering vegan keftedes (Greek meatballs)
Keftedes with spaghetti in a rich middle eastern sauce
Bean & nut “scampi” balls
Crispy fried calamari (Kalamarakia)
Fresh tomato baked rice with Greek cheese & spinach
Hot tomatoed orzo
Pastitsio Perfetto
Aubergine maqluba
Epic black quinoa & super spicy bolognese

Sweets
Semi-raw coffee crème caramel
Galaktoboureko (Greek custard slice)
Kalo prama (sort of like very sticky sweet semolina squares)
Turkish halva
Middle eastern-style rice pudding
Best-ever baklava
Pistachio and ouzo ice cream
Rose petal ice cream with cardamom
