I'm trying to find out a bit more info about the New Candle 79 Cookbook due out Nov 2011.

Candle 79 Cookbook: Modern Vegan Classics from New York's Premier Sustainable Restaurant
http://www.amazon.com/Candle-79-Cookboo ... 1607740125

A friend has asked for the Candle Cafe cookbook for her birthday (May) but I have that book and while there are good ideas, many of the recipes clearly haven't been tested and come out poorly. The best option would be to go to NY and have dinner at Candle but that's a few countries away and out of our budget for now.

Got any buzz about the Candle 79 cookbook ?

I've read terrible reviews of the first candle cafe cookbook, but I have it and have made several really amazing dinners from it. I haven't cooked through the whole thing, but at least 5-8 different recipes and they were all holiday quality.

A friend of mine gave me a gift certificate to the restaurant for my birthday one year...yum!

This reminds me of when I got the Chicago Diner cookbook and I felt like nothing in it could have ever been served in the restaurant because it was so gross. That said, I still fondly recall the two meals I had at C79 when I visited NYC three years ago... ahhh, the piccata...

I'm curious about this too. The best and most memorable meal of my life so far was dinner at Candle 79, when we were in NY for our honeymoon. Seitan picatta with creamed spinach and then either the COO or co-owner, I can't remember which, happened to be there and brought out a comped peanut butter chocolate tart for dessert and wished us a happy honeymoon! I was the happiest vegan in the entire world that night.

The picatta recipe was published in VegNews a few years ago and was actually quite easy to follow and came out well--hopefully the cookbook will follow suit.

I want it. I have no idea where my copy of The Candle Cafe book is, but it was one of my go-to books for years.

Thank you for the comments !

I've decided to loan the birthday friend my Candle Cafe Cookbook and give her a gift certificate for another book of her choice. After she test-drives some recipes, she can order the Candle Cafe one now, or she can hold out and wait until Nov when the new Candle 79 comes out.

She's also started to dream about the new Isa and Terry amazing pie cookbook that is in production; such sweet dreams !
