i cant even think of where to start (this is for me, i also posted for a recommendation for my mom)
all these books sound so great. i have Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World and LOVE IT. i was never much of a baker but ive been baking up a storm lately.
i want to delve in more cookbooks. i LOVE cooking and so many of these cookbooks look great but i have a habit of buying cookbooks and not using them.
i leafed through veganomicon a couple times and i dont think im there yet.
i love tofu and curries and brown rice and lots of veggies. sometimes im a bit turned off by cookbooks that have tons of weird ingredients or veggies that maybe you cant find at a basic grocery store (i have stop and shop near me i live in MA)..
im thinking Appetite for Reduction or Vegan with a Vengeance might be a good place to start????

Appetite for Reduction gets my vote. Everything is easy, healthy, delicious, and quick to make. Check out the thread for recipe ideas.

I recommend AFR too, it's my go-to book for veggie side dishes at the moment. It tends to rely more on fresh produce than a lot of other vegan cookbooks, which are often pretty protein-heavy. And it's super accessible, with common ingredients and realistic timeframes for putting a meal together. I think you'd like it!

VWAV was the first vegan cookbook I bought, so I LOVE it. I recently bought AFR and LOVE LOVE it. It sounds like just what you're looking for. Everything is packed with veggies and it has a whole chapter dedicated to each of the things you mentioned: curries (and chilies and stews) and tofu (and tempeh) and veggies.

AFR is my new favorite. I'm also a big fan of vegan a go go since it fits in my purse when i go to the grocery store or travel and it's sort of a hodge podge of the 'how it all vegan'/'garden of vegan'/'la dolce vegan'

I'd also go for AFR. I am easily intimidated by cookbooks but I have cooked lots of things out of it and found them really straightforward (and very yummy!).

I started with my boyfriends copy of VwaV. The recipes always come out well for me and its the book I always use for pancakes and fronch toast. Also its the first in the series! Veganomicon is good to and is not as overwhelming as it seems.

I completely agree that AFR is a great place to start. I have loved all of the recipes so far, and if nothing else you can start with the veggie chapter.

VwaV was my first vegan cookbook too. It has a lot of very good, easy recipes. I tested for AFR and own it. You can't go wrong with either book. VwaV - I recommend the Quinoa Mushroom Stuffed Peppers. Everyone loves them. AFR - The tempeh helper is sooooo good. The baked cauliflower is outstanding (and I don't often eat cauliflower). So many other goodies.

VWAV taught me how to cook. Everything is easy and so userfriendly, I really love it. Plus all the Fizzle sidebars and Punk Points are just adorable

I vote AFR. Almost everything is easy to find in regular supermarkets and it's all really basic. VWAV is awesome too, though. Either one would be great, but you should see if either book is available from your library. You could get them both and try out a recipe or two and see which one you like better.

I vote AFR too.
Veganomicon is probably still my favorite book when you do get to that point though! I remember the recipes there used to be much more overwhelming than they are now, so you'll make it eventually.

AFR is my current fave, but I'm always ready to check out the new greatest thing, or run to VWAV for an old favorite.

get AFR and VWAV. Seriously. With those two cookbooks on your shelf plus the cupcake book you'll never need another cookbook.
