hey all,
my partner and i recently discovered the $3 wine at whole foods but were dismayed to learn that it isn't vegan. does anyone else know of a similarly cheap vegan red wine available there? i've asked people working in the store but gotten little more than a blank stare in return. figured the ppk would know of somethin' good. thank you!

I'm 99% sure the Charles Shaw reds are vegan. I'm 100% sure they're cheap.

yep, two buck chuck is vegan! You lucky, lucky Americans.

edit: Barnivore says only the reds are vegan, but since that's what you're looking for...cheers!

Yep, that's what I was going to say. Are they available at places other than Trader Joe's?

I was just wondering the very same thing-Barnivore lists veganness, but not cheapness.

Also, Yellow Tail reds are vegan, but they are also pretty gross (and not two bucks, though they're relatively cheap). Charles Shaw is the best cheap red wine I've had in the US (though that is not really saying much as it still tastes pretty cheap).

Well, it's like $12.99 in Canada if it makes you feel better!

For the record, beyond Charles Shaw, there are quite a few vegan wines at TJs--a friend of mine who was bringing wine to my place once asked a TJs employee if he knew which wines were vegan--and he pulled a list of vegan wines from behind the counter! So try asking employees.

Frey and La Fortuna are two brands I know to be vegan off the top of my head. La Fortuna makes some good whites.

Not sure how cheap is cheap, but Red Truck, L'Ecole No. 41 and Frey all make tasty reds that are around $10.

One of the vegan apps on my phone (which I think gets its info from Barnivore) says FishEye wines are all vegan. They have a lot of whites and I usually see them at the grocery store for like $5.99.

Frey is my favorite but it's not super cheap- about $10 a bottle here. Still not bad. I've yet to try the 3 buck chuck, but I don't drink as much wine as I do beer and other spirits.

While I was a two-buck chuck girl, I found the yellow tail shiraz was good in a pinch (and also about $5 more expensive...)

I was looking at white wines at the grocery store yesterday and Barnivore says Fisheye is not vegan: http://www.barnivore.com/wine/692/FishE ... rd=fisheye
