Essential oils for scar treatment

Specifically acne scars.
Have you used any oil blends that contain Helichrysum? I've read some good stuff about it.
There are a million websites selling essential oils and blends. Do you have a site you recommend?

I buy Helichrysum in a 10 percent blend and keep it around as an instant first aid for small burns and insect bites. I use just a few drops to stop the itch and then the bites usually don't bother me anymore. I've bought oils from a couple of sites, but mostly from Nature's Gift, located in Tennessee. They have some good education pages and also sell several blends, one specifially for treating scars.

Hmm, it says they don't recommend that scar treatment blend for acne because of the rose hip seed oil.
They do have some other blends for acne that contain Helichrysum, I might try one of those. Thanks!

If you can get it http://www.bio-oil.com/en/ Bio Oil is fantastic no animal derived ingredients and it has not to my knowledge and web based research even been tested on animals.

i have had several extensive spinal surgeries/rib surgeries (i.e. i gots mad big scars) and i have found pure vitamin e to work the best.

Why would you put oil on acne prone skin? Aside from the information on the sites of the pages trying to sell essential oils, is there any evidence that it will work?

Doesn't mrsbadmouth's acne treating method involve rubbing jojoba oil into her skin regularly? Oil does not necessarily cause/create acne, and the right kinds of oils (ones that don't clog pores but do moisturize) can help acne. And while I don't use essential oils myself, there are studies that show that lavender can be effective on skin conditions like eczema (the references section in this article is more useful than the article itself, but you see what I mean) and tea tree oil is an effective antibacterial and antiinflammatory, and for that reason is often recommended for acne treatments. (References on its antibacterial properties and some of its uses here and here. The first of those references does mention its efficacy as an acne treatment.)

I think MBM tried jojoba oil but ended up using a cream from acne.org

The first article quotes results from a study done in 1990. The conclusion of the article is that:

Despite some progress, there is still a lack of clinical evidence demonstrating efficacy against bacterial, fungal, or viral infections. Large randomized clinical trials are now required to cement a place for TTO as a topical medicinal agent.

Putting oil on oily skin is really not a good idea. While you should not dry your skin out with harsh treatments, not everyone needs to moisturize their skin.

But none of that says that any of the oils mentioned with do anything for acne scars.

Oh sorry, I thought your question was about the effects of oil on acne, not scarring. And I definitely didn't mean to imply that I thought any treatment works on everyone.

So, this is my first big scar ever and I want it to heal the best it possibly can. As you can see it goes right through my tattoo and I'm going to have it fixed eventually. But I need to get it healed up first.

Where can I get plain old vitamin E?

Gracia, you can usually find plain vitamin E capsules at CVS. Then I'd just stick a pin in the end of it and squeeze it on your scar.
