Oh sweet. I haven't cancelled mostly because I've read so many horror stories from people who tried to cancel, so I've just been skipping my box every month, but one month I forgot, so it's nice to know I'm safe.

I just emailed Julep and they told me that all non red polishes were vegan. I'm thinking of subscribing.

I found a code for a free box, so I tried Julep out (planning on cancelling immediately because I can't afford another subscription box right now) and holy crepe is cancelling a bisque. I sat on hold forever and finally they let me leave a message to cancel and supposedly they'll cancel it for me and send me email confirmation. We'll see how that goes.

I felt bad cancelling because I actually really loved my box. The polishes are really pretty and the cuticle oil I got smells amazing. It has a roller ball thingy to put it on so I'll probably actually use it in comparison to the drop bottles that I have and never use.

Kelly, if your cancellation doesn't go through, it's so easy to just skip a month that you probably don't want to even bother going through the process again. I've heard the same thing from others, FWIW: that it was a huge ordeal. Over the past few months, their customer service has been hot and cold. I've never had a bad CS experience, but lots of people have horror stories (including one girl I know whose Warehouse Sale package contained oil-based sugar scrubs that weren't closed properly, so they exploded all over the rest of the stuff, and the CS rep told her to just wash everything off!), and the general feeling is that Julep is experiencing some growing pains.

Does anyone know about Sation/Miss Professional? I bought a couple of their glittery looking polishes while in a nail supply store in L.A, while there I googled them and found one blog that mentioned them being cruelty free but I want to be sure before I keep/use them. I've emailed them and not received a response, so I have just emailed them again.

I decided to do some more searching and found this blog post about Sation making 3-free claims but a study found their products contain toluene. The blogger emailed them several times but go no reply, maybe they don't respond to any enquires :/

Thanks for the update. I hadn't heard about the toluene, but I also haven't been able to confirm whether or not they test on animals, so I've never bought. IMHO, if you have to much that much time and effort into finding out whether a brand is vegan and/or cruelty-free, they are probably not my kind of company.

This is off-topic, but they will probably always put something with a dollar brush in it, which have animal hair. But we can ask them if they will keep the vegan/have an option to opt out of dollar brushes.

Is NYC brand nail polish vegan? Google is not helping.

Eta - though it did find me a place for vegan mani/pedis!

They do have some decent synthetic brushes, but I'm sure you're right that sometimes the boxes will have brushes with real animal hair. I could have sworn there was a quiz to customize what types of product you got in the box (and you could opt out of tools, nails, lips, whatever), but if it really happened, I can't find it now. It very well could have been another box entirely. Anyway, I didn't sign up, mainly because e.l.f. products are so inexpensive that $40 would buy way more than I need, and on top of that, they are always having some kind of percent-off sale. (Oh, and just so this isn't completely off-topic: NAIL POLISH NAIL POLISH NAIL POLISH.) ;)

Not sure about the ingredients, but NYC is a Coty brand, so it's kind of a moot point.

I don't know if it's been posted about previously - I searched and didn't find anything - but I emailed Contrary Polish about their vegan-ness, since I was eyeing up a few colors and couldn't find ingredients lists anywhere. I received a very quick email reply confirming that the polishes contain no animal ingredients. Yay for more vegan polish!

Almost more yay for that, considering how difficult it can be to get answers from companies sometimes. Smaller indie brands are way easier in that respect.

Anyone know anything about Nerd Lacquer? http://nerdlacquer.com/main.sc

I emailed to ask if they are vegan and not animal tested.

Eta - what about Dance Legend brand?? I haven't found contact info for them yet.

I bought a few things from Nerd Lacquer when she was just starting out on Etsy - I'm pretty sure I remember them being vegan, but I'd wait to hear back for sure. The thing is that everything is ALWAYS out of stock, so I kind of forgot they existed. One of the reasons I don't own many indie polishes is because I have zero patience for the whole "we're restocking at 1 pm, get what you want within 45 seconds or everything will be gone!" feeding frenzy. Nail polish should not be stressful.
