so, on the old ppk boards i asked for toothpaste advice and tried 6+ different brands in a variety of flavors for each manufacturer. among them - om's of maine, natural dentist, kiss my face, nature's gate, desert essence, jason, auromere. my top three: 1. natural dentist in berry blast or peppermint 2. jason powersmile 3. kiss my face aloe these all left my teeth feeling clean, were a decent price point, easy to find at a health food store, and MOST IMPORTANTLY tasted good. for a serious sweet tooth like me, there's nothing better than this one! (it's not tooth achingly sweet but i do switch between this and the mint) i have no shame using a toothpaste marketed towards kids. and if you have a kid, this stuff will get them to brush. (i hated the berry flavor by kiss my face. YUCK.) here's my bathroom shot:

I love this soap stuff by Rose of Sharon Acres: http://www.roseofsharonacres.com/inc/sdetail/368/13961I get the variety with xylitol cause I'm losing my enamel and getting all sensitive and hoping that will help.

Does anyone know of a non-animal tested toothpaste that contains fluoride?
eta: for my case, that are available from somewhere that ships internationally!

Jason Sea Fresh *fluoride free*, right here. Or whatever Jason toothpaste that's cheap-ish at the time. They taste good, make my mouth clean, and don't make my teeth hurt. Kiss My Face makes my teeth really sensitive for some reason.

In the UK we have a brand called Kingfisher which comes in a few flavours, and is available both with and without floride. http://www.kingfishertoothpaste.com/Whilst it doesn’t look as though the entire range is available internationally, it looks like a limited selection is available: http://simillimum.co.nz/index.php/perso ... uride.html

eta: for my case, that are available from somewhere that ships internationally! yes! i wanted the same. check the shipping on the three i posted above as my favorites. all contain fluoride. the jason powersmile does offer fluoride in select flavors. if none of those three ship internationally, you can also look into nature's gate. the taste and quality was great and they have some w. fluoride. it's getting harder to find!

Thanks guys! I found some at VitaCost, who do quite cheap international shipping ($7USD - and they also have veg gummy lollies), so I ordered about four types. Can't wait for 'Groovy Grape'.

i've been making my own toothpaste for a while, and i asked my dentist about the recipe when i was in a few weeks ago. i told him that i want cruelty-free toothpaste but that i have a hard time with the cost of some of the stuff i see out there. he was 100% down with my homemade recipe. so, i present to you the very very rough recipe, My Dentist approved:
some coconut oil some vegetable glycerin some baking soda few drops essential oil if you want
it really doesn't take measuring to figure this out. put more baking soda than you would think at first, because it will mix in there pretty well. i say get as adventurous as you want with the essential oils. i tried clove the first time, and i wasn't a huge fan of the clove-coconut combo, much to my surprise. after the batch was gone, though, i started to miss the taste, so i guess i'd gotten used to it. anywho, i *highly* recommend giving this a shot. i still bring a tube of regular stuff with me when i travel because i haven't found a good jar that doesn't let the warm coconut oil leak into my travel bag. ta-da!

Hi! I saw some sort of "tooth oil" on Amazon once, and upon looking at the list of ingredients, decided it really wasn't too bad to make. I filled a pump bottle with olive oil or sesame oil, and have a bottle of peppermint essential oil nearby.
At brushing time, I wet the toothbrush, drop peppermint on it (one drop only) and then squirt a bit of the base oil. Foams up a tiny bit, makes teeth super clean, and the mint really freshens breath.
I didn't think it would work so well, but it really does. Oil really removes the crud from teeth (google oil-pulling if you're not familiar with it).
This is super-cheap, and it's been better than any holistic toothpaste I've found! :0)

i made a batch of my own - baking soda, clove oil, glycerin and stevia. the recipe also called for calcium carbonate but i couldn't find it anywhere/don't know where to buy.
i want to try clay next. i've heard it's really nice.

I love the star anis [sic] one from Green Beaver — tastes like black liquorice! I'm not sure it's available outside of Canada, though.
But I think I'm going to start making my own tooth powder or paste when the 2 tubes I recently purchased have run out.

Lavera makes a great vegan toothpaste with fluoride. I suspect you can find it at various companies that ship internationally, because although it's a German company, I've seen it advertised on Dutch/UK/US websites.
