I have a little money from tax refund to splurge with. I remembered to wear the necklace kmouse made for me (in Molly colors!) today and have had so many compliments.
I never wear accessories. I was browsing around Etsy and got overwhelmed.
I like simple things, and I like natural stones/minerals. I hate gold. I almost always wear black. I like longer necklaces because I get twitchy if things are on my throat.
Any ideas? I think my budget ceiling needs to be around $40 max, including shipping.
Kmouse's store is empty. Sad face.

The Limited and Esprit both have nice jewelry for pretty cheap, not sure if they have exactly what you're looking for but I always like to browse their stuff online.

Slightly over your budget on this website, but you might be able to find a cheaper version of this lava necklace. I have lava stud earrings and they rule.

I have no necklaces to recommend in particular, but if you like black/grey, hematite makes really pretty jewelry in my opinion. I've seen some reasonably priced hematite necklaces at craft fairs and on etsy.

You should check out Debbie Kowalski's jewelry! http://www.etsy.com/shop/fortheanimalsjewelryShe is the owner of For the Animals Sanctuary and all profits from her necklace go to help some really awesome rescued farm animals. Plus her stuff is really beautiful and affordable. This piece is only $22 I've bought lots of vegan jewelry, but hers is always my favorite. Plus, good cause! This is just one of the cute faces your purchase would help:

Those are cute Tofulish. Checking out now. I love silver pieces. And cows.
I love that lava necklace. I'm really sticking to this budget though. I am allowing myself to have fun with 10% of my state tax refund. The rest goes into savings. I had to use federal to clear up medical bills and get a start on student loans. Thank goodness for those refunds though!
I love hematite too. Window shopping is fun.

I know you're a science-y lady so I immediately thought of this etsy store. They have necklaces based on the solar system, the atmosphere, etc. The prices vary but I think a few are in your range.

Those are amazing! The ones I love are way out of budget, but bookmarked for later.
Now I'm thinking up ways to turn a big bag of cheap beads into an atmosphere project for next year.
I'm going to make Molly a toy like these necklaces. I have a huge stash of bird toy making supplies.

Filtering etsy for geekery, science and jewellery, there are loads of awesome things. Some are a little miss frizzle. I personally have no problem with that at all, but I feel you are a much classier dresser than me- I wear an acrylic laser cut stegosaurus necklace to work! My absolute favourite are the made by molecules pieces. The serotonin necklace is beautiful!

I don't wear jewelry and it's too expensive for me anyway, but it is just so beautiful. Acrylic laser cut stegosaurus necklace sounds awesome too...

Have you tried hunting thrift stores for jewelry? I sometimes find things I like for cheap there. Lots of great ideas in this thread! Also, I love copper jewelry. I don't know if that's too close to gold for your liking.
