My hair is soo dry lately. I know I need to eat more fats and so I'm trying to do that, but does anyone have recs for a deep conditioning treatment or something I can DIY at home?

I use a bit of coconut oil after I shower to make things smooth and shiny. Olive oil is also good to use as a deep treatment. Currently I use a deep conditioner by Giovanni.

banana and avocado are both nice as hair masks, and I like red palm oil slathered on and left in for a couple hours as well.

I pour 1/2 olive and 1/2 coconut oil into my conditioner, mix and let it sit on my head for about an hour before shampooing it out. Sometimes I cover it up with a shower cap and exercise, so it's like a heat treatment.

i have coconut oil and a very ripe banana so im going to try this tonight! thanks for the ideas everyone.

if you have time freeze the banana and then let it thaw out- for some reason doing that prevents little bits that stick in your hair and make it hard to rinse out.

oh, interesting. i have like 42 old bananas in the freezer so i'll defrost one.

ok i mixed together coconut oil and a thawed banana and im sitting here watching glee while i marinate.

however, im pretty sure my dog is about ready to eat my head off.
can't say i blame her, it smells delicious.

For anyone reading this thread looking for a more conventional deep conditioner, I really like Ojon. It seems spendy for the price, but you use so little of it and it lasts forever. It has a really smoky, almost cigar like smell to it...which sounds weird but I love it.

I have the Ojon as well, but it's really just American palm oil jacked up in price. You can find it cheaper in some ethnic grocery stores.

I use Thriven from KillerStrands.com. It's $52 for 8 oz., but I only use it once a week and my hair has really loved it. I don't use it as recommended however. I use it for about 4 hours before showering and then shampoo it out. I only do this because I have very, very, very fine hair. The recommended way is to sleep in it for 7-8 hours and then simply rinse your hair and style. Mine doesn't really work out with using it that way. The smell of Ojon is great though. I love it.

I've also seen glass jars of red palm oil at Whole Foods, they look like the jars of coconut oil. I usually order some cheaper from Garden of Wisdom though.
