My theory is if you think you can rock it, you will. I used to feel a little awkward in dresses too and just decided I wanted to wear them and now I LOVE them.

BTW, that's the one I really want too. But it costs twice as much as the one I've been looking at from eshakti. While most likely worth it, I just can't right now.

Me too. Do you have Dress Barn near you? They are the best jeans I have ever had for my shape. They are sized a bit on the big side. I would wear an 18 or 20 elsewhere in jeans and wear a 16 there. They don't carry petite. They carry short which is regular rise, but short legs.

I do have a Dress Barn, I'll check them out for sure! Thanks for the advice on wearing dresses too. I might give it a try, jeans get so hot in the summer.

For those of you who live within driving distance of downtown Manhattan, on Saturday the 30th they're having their (semi)annual Fat Girl Flea Market, a HUGE clothing sale of both new and used clothing in all the plus sizes. One year I went and they had tables from Large through 6X so there's always something for everyone. They even have bathing suits and a few times I saw bridal gowns.

The prices are always fantastic! The first time I went I spent only $30 (plus the entrance fee) and came home with 4 shopping bags full of shirts and pants, many brand new, including jeans.

Read the blog:
http://fatgirlfleamarket.tumblr.com/
for a list of companies that have donated clothing this year and details of the event.

I have no affiliation - just a very happy customer each time I went. Well worth the subway ride from Jersey!

Ack! I went to order my birthday party dress and green is not listed as an option. I posted on their facebook about it - hope they add it back.

Although this new aqua might be a nice substitution or the deep purple.

Well, they tell me the green will be up "soon". If that isn't by tomorrow, I might go ahead and order the aqua so I have a hope of having it in on time.

For any Aussie ladies looking for jeans, Bettina Liano has 30% off until May 8 which means their curvy fit jeans are now $174.30 instead of $249! I'm so tempted to buy another pair.

Yep! I walk May 7 and I still can't find anything to wear under the gown (but I guess I only checked Kohls and Target). It'll probably be really hot even though it's a 930 ceremony so I'm looking for something cotton.

Congratulations! So exciting. Hope you find something just perfect. Good luck.

That's so sad. Are you going to be able to have something to wear in time?

Yes! I don't necessarily have to buy something, I just really liked that one and thought it would be a nice treat. I still have my bird cage dress I got from eshakti and I have a green bubble dress I wore to my class reunion a couple years ago and have only worn two or three times since. OR since it's not necessarily a dress affair, I could wear a pair of dark jeans and a cute top. I'll figure something out. Thanks for being sad with me :)

ugh, I can't handle it when I fall in love with something online and it doesn't fit IRL. I've had it happen a couple times where there is just NO room for my boobs at all in a dress.

I also run in to the "too short" issue every time I try on a dress ever.

I'm glad you have other things you can wear!

That's why I don't shop for clothes or shoes online. The last straw was a pair of super cute vegan saddle shoes from Payless online, that totally pinch my fat feet. I see stuff I want, but I don't buy, it's too sadmaking.

Man sometimes Forever21 has cute plus size stuff and sometimes it's just so frumpy and unflattering...however I did see some goodies recently:

(+1 on the name for this one: the Flounce Dress)

would be cute as a cover0-up for tanks:

if you're feeling adventurous:

How i wish these were just a teensy bit longer!

Also, apparently H & M is launching a plus size collection! Might be pricey and it's only online with european shipping, but semi-exciting! http://hm.bazooka.se/2011/01/language/uk/inclusive-%E2%80%93-fashion-for-everyone/

I love these! But I'm wary. I have giant thighs and a not as big waist. I have problem with pants all the time. The "stretch" has me hopeful though. But I wish thigh measurements were included in sizing charts for pants!
