A dermotologist told me that my skin is too dry and recommended that I bathe with Eucerin. Anyone know if it is cruelty free and vegan? If not, anyone know of an alternative product?

Like Eucerin body wash? What product specifically?

Apparently Beiersdorf, which owns Eucerin, does not to tests on animals. Here's the policy:

Quote:
Beiersdorf does not conduct tests on animals for cosmetic products. We believe that the development of cosmetic products must avoid the utilization of animal tests. This policy not only meets the wishes of many consumers, but also reflects the progress of scientific research and the corresponding legal requirements.

For 20 years, Beiersdorf has been successfully developing 'in vitro' alternatives to tests on animals. This work has been conducted in part with manufacturer associations and expert bodies. Beiersdorf is one of the world's leading, best known and accepted research companies in this area.

We are very active in the European Cosmetic Toiletry and Perfumery Association (COLIPA), including SCAAT (the Association's Steering Committee on Alternatives to Animal Testing) and its special project teams; in the European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ECVAM); and also at OECD level. We are also an active member of IVTIP (the In Vitro Testing Industrial Platform) and ESTIV (the European Society of Toxicology In Vitro), and in 2006 we also joined the EPAA (European Partnership for Alternative Approaches to Animal Testing), a joint organisation of the European Commission and industry.

Our purpose is the greatest possible safety of our consumers and compatibility of our cosmetic products by careful selection of the relevant ingredients. 'In vitro' methods, i.e. tests performed in test tubes rather than on animals, are very important in this context. After obtaining acceptable in vitro results, we test the compatibility and effect of developmental and final products 'in vivo' on human volunteers.

As for whether the ingredients are vegan, let us know what product and I or someone will take a look I'm sure, but sometimes you just have to email the company.

It contains lanolin alcohol, so it's not vegan.

ShiKai makes a good soap-free body wash, though other people might have more suggestions.

In the winter my skin gets ridiculously dry and I basically use that on my pits and feet and just water everywhere else unless I got really sweaty or dirty or something.

Not all of their products contain lanolin, so you'll have to check the labels. The Aquaphor baby wash is lanolin free.

I use the Eucerin daily protection SPF 30 moisturizer and love it.
