Has anyone tried it? They don't test on animals but some of their stuff has silk and some other non-vegan ingredient in it. I've been looking at the argan oil one (I already have actual argan oil) and the ginger one. I see mixed reviews of it online.

(before anyone says anything, I don't actually care that they're not organic)

I love the argan oil shampoo and conditioner. I would buy it a lot more often it was cheaper. I thought that one was vegan? I may have been blinded by the sulfate and paraben free label, these things tend to happen with me.

Which products specifically are you looking at? I'm looking at the ingredients of one and it contains urea (ew), but perhaps you're looking at a different variety...

Lots of urea is synthetic, so it's not always non-vegan. Not sure what kind this brand uses, but from what I've read lots of the urea used in cosmetics is made using synthetic ammonia and carbon dioxide.

It's synthetic. They list on their website the animal products that they use in their products.

Ah, OK. Clearly I'm not well-informed on my urea, haha.

Ooh, maybe I'll go back to Target and get a big bottle to try! (I think they had coconut and argan oil and...one or two others in a bigger "bonus size" bottle.)

I should see how much it is at Target. I looked up the ingredients on line and I don't think the argan oil has silk. It didn't say silk. I dunno I guess it would say silk or would that be called something else? So I'm not 100% sure it's vegan, I think it is. But it makes my hair nice. It's just $8 for a 13 oz. bottle, which is a lot!

The site says something about their silk being naturally or humanely harvested. I'm not sure what that means. Do they go into the woods looking for old cocoons?

I didn't really understand that, either. How do you humanely harvest silk?

it looks as though if it has silk it would say: Silk Amino Acids.

i skimmed it on wiki, and for fabric they kill the moth or whatever, in the cocoon before it comes out, so the strands don't get torn, cause you need long strands of silk for fabric. I imagine that they don't need 3 foot long strands of silk for shampoo? So maybe they let them hatch? I dunno. I don't really see how it could be humane unless you go out scouting for discarded cocoons, but I doubt they do that.

From their website:
Does Organix® contain animal by-products?
Yes, some of our shampoos and conditioners do contain animal by-products such as keratin derived from sheep wool and whipped egg white proteins. Our products also contain silk amino acids, but the silk is extracted naturally. For an animal free product I would recommend the hydrating teatree mint or the rejuvenating cherry blossom ginseng shampoos and conditioners, but please keep in mind that while they are animal by-product free, they still contain the silk and then that would be a matter of your personal preference.

I have no idea about the silk.

I recently bought shampoo and conditioner that was in the same type of bottle as Organix (so probably the same parent company?), but had much more natural ingredients. The shampoo doesn't lather as much as I would like, but they were sold at Duane Reade and not that expensive. I'm at work and I can't remember what the brand was called, but I can look it up when I get home if you're interested.
